Duties & Responsibilities
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Athletics Director reports to the Head of School and is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the Veritas Academy Athletic Department. The Director of Athletics is responsible for overseeing the athletic program, as it serves as a vital extension of the school’s mission to partner with parents in discipleship to cultivate genuine faith in Christ, godly virtue, and excellence in athletics. As a member of the Veritas Academy Administration team, the Athletics Director’s leadership must reflect the will of the board and its intended mission for the school.
Virtue Development
- Cultivate an environment where student athletes learn to navigate both success and failure with integrity, humility, and fortitude, forming them into a virtuous individual over time.
- Emphasize the value of personal responsibility by teaching students to be accountable for their actions, words, and efforts on and off the field.
Coaching Leadership and Development
- Preferred to coach at least two sports, whether as a head coach or assistant, to maintain direct involvement with athletes and staff.
- Identify, recruit, and hire coaches and staff who embody the mission of Veritas Academy and are dedicated to fostering students’ spiritual, physical, and mental growth in virtue.
- Provide consistent training and mentorship to the athletics department, promoting excellence and virtuous character.
- Strategically attend practices and games to observe, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback on coaching performance, supporting continuous improvement and alignment with Veritas Academy’s athletics department.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the assistant athletic director and other athletics staff members, delegating tasks as needed, ensuring effective contribution to the athletic program, and regularly evaluating performance.
- Oversee all aspects of team management, including registration, eligibility compliance, scheduling, and transportation logistics, with support from the assistant athletic director as delegated.
- Maintain a strong relationship with TAPPS, ensuring compliance with organizational requirements and administrative protocols, delegating specific tasks to the assistant athletic director as appropriate.
- Ensure the athletics department is coordinating the planning and execution of athletic events, including concessions, gate operations, scoring, referees, trainers, and volunteer coordination, with the assistant athletic director providing additional support as assigned.
- Develop and implement a meaningful and focused off-season program for rhetoric girls and boys, designed to build strength, agility, and overall athletic performance in alignment with Veritas Academy’s athletic goals and values.
Resource Stewardship
- Oversee the athletic program within the established budget, ensuring prudent and equitable allocation of resources across all sports. Collaborate in assessing budget adequacy and assist in establishing appropriate fees for each sport to support program sustainability and growth.
- Manage and maintain all athletic facilities, including the gym, football field, and other sports areas, ensuring they remain safe, functional, and well-kept.
- Oversee the purchasing, maintenance, and inventory of athletic equipment and collaborate with facilities team for coordination of supplies needed teams and programs to run effectively.
Parent and Community Engagement
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with parents, working collaboratively to support the overall growth of student athletes.
- Share athletic department expectations, including codes of conduct, with students and parents to ensure alignment with school values and policies.
- Regularly seek input from parents, athletes, and coaches through surveys to identify opportunities for growth and continuously enhance the athletic program.
Qualifications
Required Personal Qualities
- Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living.
- Be in whole-hearted agreement with Veritas Academy’s Statements of Faith, Life and Conduct.
- Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and action toward others (Luke 6:40). This includes being committed to God’s biblical standards for sexual conduct.
- Be a Christian who is, and will remain during the period of employment, an active member of a Christ-centered church, growing in his/her Christian relationship with God, and actively practicing and exhibiting Christian principles of the Christian faith.
- Be spiritually mature and consistently maintain a daily devotional and prayer life.
- Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and be prepared to assist them in that task.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5 years of coaching experience
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree or higher in Education
- 3 years experience in a classical, Christian, or University-Model/collaborative school
Physical Demands
- Successfully complete CPR and first aid training every two years and be willing and able to render such aid when necessary.
- Perform child restraint if necessary.
