Position Summary
VMG is seeking a qualified Catholic Religious Education (RE) Coordinator to support the Altus Air Force Base Chapel community. The RE Coordinator will provide Catholic youth and adult religious education, coordinate sacramental preparation, recruit and supervise volunteers, manage curriculum and supplies, and support chapel-based educational ministry in coordination with the Catholic Chaplain.
This is a part-time, contracted position operating primarily on Sundays and in conjunction with the RE year (September–May). The coordinator is expected to be onsite for Sunday Mass and while RE classes are in session.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Oversight & Curriculum Management
- Plan, coordinate, and implement Catholic Youth of the Chapel (CYOC), adult RE, Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation preparation.
- Develop an annual RE calendar and coordinate facilities, logistics, and budgets with the Catholic Chaplain.
- Submit curriculum orders, manage inventory, and maintain continuity files for all RE events.
- Ensure compliance with Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) guidelines and Air Force religious education policy.
Volunteer & Classroom Coordination
- Recruit, train, and supervise RE teachers and volunteers throughout the academic year.
- Ensure appropriate adult-to-child ratios and background checks for all volunteers.
- Assign classrooms, distribute curriculum materials, and inspect classrooms before and after use.
- Arrange substitutes, provide refreshments, and support seasonal programs tied to the liturgical calendar.
Program Administration & Communication
- Maintain attendance records and provide weekly reports to chapel staff.
- Coordinate teacher support requests and chapel publicity for RE events.
- Attend briefings and meetings as requested by the Catholic Chaplain.
- Submit invoices and documentation through required government platforms (e.g., WAWF).
Qualifications
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
- Certified catechist with the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS), or 3–5 years of RE teaching experience or 2 years as an RE Coordinator.
- Must enroll in and work toward AMS certification if not yet certified; a master's in theology may substitute.
- Completed Youth Protection Training (Boy Scouts of America or Dallas Charter equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years of experience using Microsoft Office programs, internet, and email.
- Must successfully pass a background check and installation access screening.
- Ability to work respectfully in a pluralistic religious environment, ideally with some military chapel experience.
Work Schedule and Compensation
- This is a part-time, seasonal position during the RE academic year (September–May), approximately 40 Sundays.
- Expected to be present for Sunday Mass and RE class sessions, with flexible weekday hours for preparation.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
