Position Title: Protestant Musician Part-Time

Summary:
The Protestant Service Musician (PSM) will provide musical selections on the piano/keyboard for the Linden Oaks Faith Community 10AM Services with rehearsal at 9am. The PSM will also assist the Faith Community Worship Leader (Volunteer) in teaching music to the choir and other musicians in support of the Worship Service.
Musicians shall be able to read and play traditional, contemporary, and new age music according to the religious services being rendered. Musicians must maintain an intermediate level musical proficiency on the instrument identified for the service being rendered.
Musician shall be knowledgeable of and be able to apply liturgical and contemporary music norms of the Protestant tradition in preparation for worship and/or Special Services for the specific Chapel tradition in which they will perform, in addition to being knowledgeable of and conversant with developments in Protestant music both liturgical and contemporary for the specific Chapel tradition of the congregation served.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Regular Worship and Regular Worship Rehearsals:
- Accompany (play piano/organ/guitar/keyboard)) or direct musical selections during designated regular worship services including accompany singing of hymns, choruses, and spiritual songs; choral response, anthems, and special music that enhances the atmosphere of worship for the gospel congregation.
- Accompany regular choir rehearsals: play the piano/organ/guitar/keyboard and/or direct accompaniment for choir/worship team rehearsals.
Special Worship and Special Worship Rehearsals:
- Accompany (piano/organ/guitar/keyboard) or direct musical selections during designated special worship services, feast day or holy day celebrations within the church-liturgical calendar outside of the regular worship schedule including accompaniment of hymns, choruses, and spiritual songs; choral responses, anthems, and special music that enhances the atmosphere of worship for the congregation.
- Accompany regular choir rehearsals: play the piano/organ/guitar/keyboard and/or direct accompaniment for choir/worship team rehearsals.
Communicate with the chaplains, priests, song/worship leaders, and other musicians conducting the service to ensure a coordinated service of worship for the congregation:
- Plan and coordinate all musical selections with the Chaplain/Pastor of the congregation or appropriate designated representative to select music in keeping with the theme of worship service.
- Select for choir/solo presentation music that enhances the atmosphere of worship for the gospel congregation as directed by the Chaplain/Pastor.
- Coordinate and/or provide music for all services and adjust tempo and style of choir selections to enhance the congregation’s ability to participate in worship as directed by the Chaplain/Pastor.
- Provide music selections to the Chaplain/Pastor by the time designated for publication in worship service bulletins and coordination with other musical staff.
Musicians shall be present at least 30 minutes prior to each mass or chapel service and 15 minutes before each rehearsal. Contractor shall not leave during the service unless the COR has approved of it.
Musicians shall monitor all government provided instruments used by Fort Liberty and report requirements or repair or replacement to the COR or designated representative:
- Contractors are not signing for Government Furnished Property but can utilize the chapel’s established instruments or contractors own.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Protestant Musician may only hold one contract per chapel service.
- Candidates must audition for this position.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma.
- Musicians shall have at least one (1) year of chapel worship services experience.
- A minimum of two (2) written references indicating performance of worship music services.
- Musicians shall be able to read and play gospel, traditional, contemporary, and new age music according to the religious services being rendered.
- Musicians must maintain an intermediate level musical proficiency on the piano/keyboard for the service being rendered.
- Musicians without experience in a worship setting may be considered if the criteria for references and musical abilities can be met. Each reference shall also verify their own credibility as a professional musician, clergy, etc. in a recognized church setting or applicable setting.
- Military experience preferred, but not required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Criminal History Background Check- Successfully complete and pass security background investigation involving the following agencies for working with youth under 18: a North Carolina Criminal History Background Check, an FBI Fingerprint Check, and a Fort Liberty Installation Records Check (IRC).
