Position Summary
VMG is seeking a qualified Protestant Religious Education (RE) Coordinator to support the Chapel community at Grand Forks Air Force Base (AFB). The RE Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering Protestant religious education programs including children’s, youth, and adult ministries, discipleship classes, and Vacation Bible School (VBS). This is a part-time contracted position requiring regular Sunday attendance and flexible weekday hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Oversight and Development
- Plan and implement religious education programs under guidance of the Wing Chaplain and Chaplain in Charge (CIC).
- Publish annual Protestant RE schedule and vision statement for program development.
- Reserve, set up, and maintain chapel facilities for classes and events.
- Coordinate spiritual formation classes and ensure documentation is submitted.
Budget and Resource Management
- Prepare annual RE budgets and submit to the Senior Protestant Chaplain.
- Request and track appropriated and Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF) purchases.
- Ensure curriculum purchases are approved before acquisition.
Volunteer Supervision and Classroom Support
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers with background checks per DoDI 1402.5.
- Host at least two training sessions per year for teachers.
- Track volunteer hours and ensure coverage for all scheduled classes.
- Visit RE classes regularly and report attendance at bi-weekly chapel staff meetings.
Administrative and Chapel Integration
- Maintain regular office hours (8 hours/week) and attend chapel staff and Protestant Advisory Council meetings.
- Coordinate with Catholic RE Coordinator and chapel team for shared events and resources.
- Ensure all publicity for classes and events is accurate and timely.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year experience conducting or coordinating a Protestant RE program (military context preferred).
- At least 24 college credit hours in Protestant religious education or equivalent experience.
- Must be 18 years or older and live within 100 miles of Grand Forks AFB.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Evidence of good standing in the Protestant Christian faith.
- Successful completion of federal and installation background checks.
- Must pass youth protection training and comply with DoDI 1402.5.
Work Schedule and Compensation
- Weekly schedule includes Monday nights, Tuesday mornings, and Sunday mornings.
- Eight office hours per week (Monday–Friday 0730–1630 and Sunday 1100–1200).
- Two weeks’ written notice required for absences exceeding three days, and a pre-approved substitute must be provided.
- Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
