Position Summary
VMG is seeking a dedicated Roman Catholic Priest to provide religious, liturgical, and pastoral support to the military community at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This part-time, on-site position is integral to the U.S. Army Command Religious Program and requires collaboration within a pluralistic chapel environment. The ideal candidate is a Roman Catholic priest in good standing with an ecclesiastical endorsement from the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) or eligibility to obtain one.
Key Responsibilities
Liturgical and Sacramental Duties
Lead the celebration of the Mass, including Sunday, daily, and Holy Day services
Administer the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick
Support weddings, memorials, and other ceremonial services as requested
Pastoral and Spiritual Care
Offer pastoral counseling and spiritual guidance to service members, families, and other authorized personnel
Provide crisis support and emotional care in alignment with military chaplaincy standards
Program Participation and Collaboration
Work closely with the Garrison Chaplain and chapel team to plan and coordinate services
Participate in liturgical calendar planning and religious education initiatives
Maintain effective communication and collaborate in an interfaith setting
Reporting and Compliance
Submit required documentation and reports per AMS and DoD guidelines
Adhere to military and ecclesiastical confidentiality and conduct expectations
Qualifications
Required
Ordained Roman Catholic Priest in good standing
AMS endorsement or eligibility to obtain one
Minimum of 2 years’ pastoral ministry experience, ideally including military, hospital, or correctional chaplaincy
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in an interfaith, multicultural environment
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Tier 1 (NACI) clearance
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Preferred
Experience in DoD or VA religious service settings
Familiarity with military chapel operations and AMS compliance protocols
Comfort serving in diverse ministry contexts including field units and family services
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
