What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dean of Students (25-26, High School) position at Veritas Prep?

We are seeking a talented and experienced dean of students to lead our growing high school. We want a culturally, instructionally and operationally proficient leader who is passionate about equity, furthering student achievement and providing a safe space for students to learn and grow. Our dean of students will bring the following skills & attributes to the role:
Dean of Students: Works with the Principal and Assistant Principals to establish and sustain a celebratory and productive school culture. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Maintain high expectations for the achievement of all students, in collaboration with the school leadership team.
- Support teachers to hold all students to high and consistent behavioral expectations.
- Serve as a resource to teachers in terms of issues of discipline, relationships with students, classroom management, and school culture.
- As the point person for discipline issues, consistently use the school's code of conduct and portrait of a graduate to ensure the discipline process teaches students accountability and restorative justice, and is applied with consistency and clear communication
- Supervise breakfast, lunch, in-between class transitions, activity period/office hour, and dismissal, making sure that students are always where they are supposed to be and ensuring a professional school culture at these times.
- Manage before and after school detention.
- Actively supporting the leadership team's coordination and collaboration
- Foster positive student culture and climate and build positive relationships with individual students
- Develop relationships and behavior plans with those students who need help by coaching, supporting, and compelling these students towards increasingly positive behavior.
- Lead and supervise student support staff, including the Lead Intervention Teacher, and the student success coaches
- Lead the implementation of a multi-tiered system of social emotional and instructional supports for all students.
- Build relationships and engage frequently with families and community members as critical partners in school improvement.
- Work collaboratively with the counseling department, related service provider, family and community engagement staff, partners and other individuals to ensure that students and families receive the appropriate level of support services.
- Developing, promoting, and leading school activities and events designed to build community, celebrate student and teacher successes, and promote the school’s mission and habits of scholars
- Promoting and supporting a “One School, Two Campus” culture and programming
- Supporting and attending school events
Qualifications - Required:
- Masters in Education Leadership or similar field of study preferred
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Minimum 3 years experience as a school leader, preferably as a dean of students
- Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment
Qualifications - Preferred:
- Teaching and leadership experience in an urban public school
- School start up or restructuring experience
- High School leadership experience
Veritas Prep offers competitive salaries and comprehensive benefit packages that include the following:
- Salary Range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000, exclusive of fringe benefits.
- If hired, your final base salary will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience.
- In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
- Keep in mind, the above range is the full base salary range for this position. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
