As an early-stage startup, we’re looking for a passionate and driven Founding Data Scientist to spearhead our AI efforts and help define our AI strategy.

Role Description

This is a full-time position at Veritec AI with a fast-paced, high-pressure environment typical of an early-stage startup. The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for data science, statistics, data analytics, data visualization, and data analysis to drive actionable insights for our legal industry clients. Candidates must be prepared to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, when the company needs it.

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Development: Architect and implement LLM-powered solutions, leveraging both proprietary and open-source models (e.g., OpenAI, Hugging Face, etc.).
• Prompt Engineering & Optimization: Craft, test, and iterate on prompts to improve model performance for a wide range of NLP tasks.
• NLP & Entity Recognition: Develop and maintain advanced entity recognition pipelines to extract actionable insights from unstructured text.
• Vectorization & Vector Databases: Build and optimize vector-based search and storage solutions (e.g., Pinecone, Milvus, or FAISS) for high-performance retrieval and recommendation systems.
• Data Management: Ensure efficient and secure ingestion, transformation, and storage of large data sets.
• Performance Tuning & Scaling: Optimize model performance and scalability, ensuring seamless deployment and operation in production environments.
• Extended Hours & Off-Hours Availability: Be prepared to work long hours, nights, and weekends to meet tight deadlines or address urgent production issues.

Qualifications & Skills

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related field. (Ph.D. is a plus but not required if you have demonstrable experience.)
• LLM Expertise: Proven track record of training, fine-tuning, and deploying large language models (OpenAI, open-source models like GPT-based or LLaMA-based architectures).
• Prompt Engineering: Hands-on experience creating, refining, and validating prompts for various NLP applications.
• NLP Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of text processing libraries, entity recognition techniques (e.g., SpaCy, NER models), and topic modeling.
• Vector Databases: Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, Milvus, FAISS) for semantic search and large-scale retrieval solutions.
• Coding Proficiency: Proficient in Python (PyTorch or TensorFlow a plus), with the ability to write clean, efficient, and production-ready code.
• Cloud Services (Azure a Plus): Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Azure-specific experience is a bonus.
• Team Player & Startup Mindset: Willing to roll up your sleeves, wear multiple hats, and collaborate across teams in a high-pressure environment.
• Flexibility: Comfortable with occasional off-hours work to meet tight deadlines or address urgent issues.
