Job Summary
As a Database Administrator at Veritex Community Bank, you will manage, optimize, and secure databases across on-premise systems and cloud-based solutions. This role is pivotal in driving the organization's data strategy by ensuring performance, security, and compliance of data systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support seamless data access, modernize database infrastructures, and implement automation opportunities that align with Veritex Bank's strategic priorities, including Zero-Trust principles and ITIL-aligned processes.
Responsibilities and Duties
Database Management
Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of databases, ensuring adherence to standardized configurations for compliance and security.
Optimize database schemas, stored procedures, and SQL queries to improve performance and scalability.
Modernize database infrastructures by transitioning critical workloads to cloud platforms while maintaining on-premise security.
Cloud Database Management
Lead migration efforts from on-premise systems to cloud-based platforms, using hybrid data management strategies.
Administer and maintain cloud database solutions, implementing governance policies to ensure compliance.
Standardize and automate data partitioning, storage optimization, and indexing to enhance query execution and reduce latency.
Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Readiness
Design and implement a robust database backup and disaster recovery strategy in both on-premise and cloud environments.
Conduct semi-annual disaster recovery drills to validate Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) compliance.
Integrate disaster recovery workflows into ServiceNow for automated monitoring and tracking.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization
Use advanced monitoring tools to proactively identify performance bottlenecks and remediate inefficiencies.
Implement database performance tuning strategies such as indexing, partitioning, and query optimization to meet or exceed SLAs.
Data Security and Governance
Enforce Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Privileged Identity Management (PIM) to uphold data governance and Zero-Trust principles.
Conduct regular security audits to ensure compliance with CIS benchmarks, SOX, PCI, and GDPR requirements.
Monitor and mitigate vulnerabilities using automated tools like ServiceNow SecOps for database activities.
Documentation and Compliance
Create and maintain documentation of database configurations, workflows, and operational processes.
Establish and enforce data retention, classification, and lifecycle management policies to support audits and compliance.
Collaboration and Automation
Work with IT teams to identify and implement automation opportunities that reduce manual efforts in database management tasks.
Collaborate with ServiceNow administrators to integrate database workflows, aligning with ITIL practices.
Partner with data architects and engineers to align database management strategies with business priorities.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
7 years in database administration, with expertise in SQL Server and cloud-based database solutions.
Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps for database version control, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development workflows.
Experience implementing Agile methodologies in database management processes, including sprint planning and iterative deployments.
Familiarity with ServiceNow workflows for incident, problem, and change management, as well as database lifecycle automation.
Demonstrated success in migrating on-premise databases to cloud platforms and integrating hybrid cloud solutions.
Proficiency with modern database technologies such as Azure Synapse, Snowflake, and Azure Data Lake.
Preferred: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Snowflake SnowPro Core Certification, or similar credentials.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in database monitoring and performance tools, SQL optimization, and database schema design.
Strong knowledge of data security best practices, including encryption and RBAC.
Experience with scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automating tasks and workflows.

Additional Information: This hybrid role offers a combination of on-site collaboration and remote flexibility, with 4 days in-office and 1 flex day per week.
