About The Role:veritree is seeking a Field Forestry Technician / Auditor to join its Field Operations team. This role will support global field-based initiatives such as tree planting verification, survival auditing and data collection. This role will require >50% of travel, and will require the successful candidate to travel to veritree s planting sites on a scheduled and an ad-hoc basis.
This individual will be responsible for developing a standard operating procedure for field visits based on several different forest types. The successful candidate will report to the Field Operations Manager and work closely with members of the Field Operations, Product, and Science teams. This new role will ensure veritree maintains the highest-standards of tree verifications as it scales planting efforts across the globe.
The role s key outcomes in the next 12 months are:
- Perform a field-based planting audit for the planting operations of veritree s core planting partners.
- Identify risks, discrepancies and/or concerns related to site assessment, planting activities, tree survival and growth.
- Develop and document standardized field auditing and reporting procedures to be performed throughout veritree s various global sites.
- Utilize vertiree s data collection technologies to help streamline and scale field audits, partner trainings and feature improvements.
- Work closely with the Field Data & Reporting Coordinator to systemize solving issues related to data consistency, data upload, data quality and data frequency.
Travel to veritree s planting sites on as needed to evaluate whether planting and survival standards are being maintained.
- You will audit recorded planting session data such as planted amounts, planted species, planting density and planted area.
- You will audit recorded survival and growth progress data by counting alive and dead trees, measuring tree heights and confirming data from existing plots.
- You will audit daily planting and nursery operations from seed collection, counting and planting to find gaps and inefficiencies.
- You will assess the severity of any current or future risks to areas already planted and to be planted.
Develop a standardized procedure for site auditing and reporting.
- You will build a field audit methodology for each of the site ecosystems that veritree has or intends to plant trees.
- You will ensure that data and findings from these site audits is thoroughly organized and presented in a report containing actionable recommendations where required.
Conduct data collection, training or technology deployment tasks as required.
- You will assist in the ground-based data collection or verification tasks that go beyond tree planting such as sensor deployment, veritree app testing and field team training.
- You will utilize the veritree app and system to collect evidence of planting activities and tree growth/survival where required.
- You will perform the collection of drone-based imagery and data at all new planting sites and existing planting sites where required.
Requirements
Professional Requirements:
- 4 years of relevant professional field and/or forestry experience.
- Degree or Certificate in Forestry, Forest Science, Natural Resource Management, Physical Geography, Environmental Science, Applied Science or other related technical fields.
- Technical experience creating and performing field surveys, forest inventories and/or forestry audits
- Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GPS navigation, and LiDAR data processing
- Love and experience working in a variety of forested ecosystems including mangrove forests, terrestrial forests and agroforestry systems
- Ability to hike, carry equipment, and work in rugged terrain or remote locations.
- Ability to work long hours and weekends while performing field-work
- (Preferred) Experience flying a drone with a LiDAR payload
- (Preferred) Prior field-work experience in South America, Africa or Asia

A typical hiring range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 CAD per year with the final salary offer based on your qualifications, job-related skills, and relevant experience.
