About RJC
Rutland Jewish Center is a nondenominational, egalitarian congregation dating back to 1910 with a unique and beautiful building which is listed on the historic registry. Our roughly 100 household membership comes from varied backgrounds and traditions and welcomes diversity and equality. We are committed to expanding Jewish knowledge through educational programs, spiritual, cultural and social events throughout the year.
Rutland has a population of around 16,000, and is located in the middle of the beautiful Green Mountains with a diverse art and cultural scene, and a beautiful, historic downtown with great restaurants, bars, a theater, and shopping. We are also minutes away from excellent outdoor recreation including skiing, mountain biking, golf, and hiking.
RJC seeks a spiritual leader who is:

- Responsibilities:
- Lead biweekly Shabbat services including Torah chanting, all holidays and High Holidays
- Facilitate life-cycle events such as births, weddings and funerals, etc.
- Act as the guide regarding Halakha
- When not physically in the community will make a reasonable effort to be available to members regarding personal issues when they seek advice
- Oversee youth education programs, b’nei mitzvah preparation and adult learning
- Board Relations and Planning:
- Participate with the Board in identification and development of policies and needs of the synagogue
- Work with the Ritual committee to update current policies
- Advise the Board regarding any grant writing on behalf of congregation
- Able to work collaboratively with committee members to find creative ways to identify and
- recruit potential members
- Community and Public Relations:
- Represent the synagogue and seeks cooperation with local and state community
- Adapt to unpredictable events when necessary
- Compensation:
- A total annual compensation package ranging from $40,000 - $50,000 depending on experience
- 2 weeks paid time off each year
- Flexible schedule as needed
