Mount Saint Joseph Academy, a Roman Catholic, diocesan co-educational / college preparatory high school located in Rutland, Vermont, seeks a full time History / Social Studies classroom teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.Mount St. Joseph Academy exists to provide students with a strong college preparatory education, focused on the pillars of academic, spiritual, social, and physical formation in the Catholic intellectual tradition.Applicants for this position should be passionate about history / social studies, and have the ability to teach United States and World History, as well as World Cultures and Geography, and Civics / Government Studies across all high school grade levels. An ideal candidate shall possess, at a minimum, a Bachelors degree in history / social studies or a related field of study, be eligible for appropriate State of Vermont certification, and indicate that he / she is qualified to fulfill the professional services required of the respective subject area. A full-time teacher at Mount St.
Joseph Academy will be expected to: Teach five class periods a day, of approximately 50 minutes each. Prepare daily lesson plans available for inspection by the Principal when requested. Advise/moderate one extracurricular activity. Attend monthly faculty meetings and inservice.
Attend after school activities as deemed necessary by the Principal, including but not limited to: Parent/Teacher conferences, Back to School Information Night, Enrollment Open Houses, Baccalaureate Mass / Senior Awards, and Commencement. Submit grades in accordance with procedures established by the Guidance Department and Principal. Maintain open lines of communication with students and parents/guardians. Follow all Diocesan and School policies as outlined in the Teacher Employment Contract and the Faculty / Staff Handbook.Promote student achievement by effectively managing a classroom of diverse learners and backgrounds that fosters an environment both inviting and accepting to the student.
Participate and support the liturgical life of the school by attending all school Masses and prayer services. Maintain an individual program of professional development, including teacher certification and licensure. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in History / Social Studies, or related field of study, from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 1-2 years teaching experience in middle or high school classroom preferred but not required.
Excellent communication (written & verbal), organizational and time-management skills.Vermont Teaching Licensure with proper endorsements preferred, but not required.Willingness to support the Catholic Christian mission of the Academy through word and action.
