Staff Reporter

Vermont Standard
Woodstock, VT Full Time
POSTED ON 2/8/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/7/2025

The Vermont Standard in beautiful Woodstock, Vermont, is adding a staff reporter. We are now accepting applications from locally-based writers who have experience, energy, and a great deal of interest in the local news of the towns we cover in Windsor County/the Upper Valley. Assignments may involve reporting on breaking news, government actions, community events, issues of interest to our readers, or writing feature stories. A devotion to accuracy, attention to detail, dependability, and adherence to tight deadlines are required.

A journalism background is preferred, but it's not mandatory if you're a good writer and you've genuinely got curiosity about the news that happens in the local communities we serve (a ten-town area). This job has a flexible schedule in which you're expected to work up to 32 hours per week based out of your home. Each week you'll be assigned five stories and you can work on them at your own pace in order to submit them by deadline. The objective is to tell our readers what's happening, and explain it to them in a way that's accurate, concise, understandable, and enjoyable/worthwhile to read.

The Vermont Standard is routinely named the best small weekly newspaper in New England. This is an opportunity to work for a top-notch local news operation that may appeal to veteran reporters as well as talented newcomers.

For confidential consideration, please respond to this ad with your resume and a cover note that explains why you'd be a good fit for this role; for more information, contact publisher and editorial director Dan Cotter.
