Summer Bridge Lead Coordinator
Non-Bargaining Unit, Part-Time, Temporary
This position is responsible for creating and carrying out a residential Summer Bridge program for the VTSU Randolph and Williston campuses. This will involve recruiting mentors and eligible participants; supervising mentors and participants during programming; planning and implementing all daily programming for the 5 days; working with Academic Support TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) staff to evaluate effectiveness of the Summer Bridge Program and building upon learning experiences to modify/adapt the program for subsequent years.
Compensation and Terms
$20/hr for 8-10 hours/week from April 2025 through September 2025, with increased hours during the month of SBP up to 37.5 hours (total of 20 weeks). This position is contingent on receipt of continued funding from external sources. Reports to the Director of Academic Support and TRIO.
Duties
- Recruit Summer Bridge participants from a pool of eligible new students who are attending VTSU Randolph and Williston in the FA24 term, including coordinating with Admissions to identify eligible students, designing and delivering marketing materials to potential Bridge students, and collaborating with Academic Support staff to implement recruiting efforts and making connections with incoming students.
- Maintain records (TRIO Applications and Contacts) for Bridge participants to help with SSS grant participant tracking and grant data reporting.
- Provide supervision, academic support, and transitional programming to incoming first-year Summer Bridge participants in a residence hall environment.
- Provide training, supervision, and feedback to peer mentors/group leaders.
- Coordinate the planning and delivery of Bridge Program-related activities, projects, and special events.
- Offer support and assistance to peer mentors/group leaders residing in the residence halls with participants, ensuring they have resources and guidance necessary to effectively engage with participants throughout the day and evenings.
- Ensure compliance with Bridge Program rules and expectations, including curfew, supervised study periods, and behavior guidelines, while also enforcing residence hall and university policies to guide appropriate participant behavior. Act at all times with full regard for each participant’s emotional and physical well-being, making referrals to Academic Support staff or campus resources when necessary.
- Provide academic support and general academic guidance, serve as an academic resource, and motivate and encourage participants’ full involvement.
- Accommodate reasonable requests for extra assistance by students, within the constraints of program guidelines and scheduling.
- Maintain professional and ethical relationships and boundaries with staff and participants at all times; communicate and share with program staff relevant information concerning participant and program issues and seek immediate assistance from SSS Director or other core staff member when a situation exceeds your experience or expertise, and inform such staff of any concerns regarding participant behavior, including sickness, absences, drug use, etc.
- Plan and execute special activities and events by coordinating and delegating efforts and/or leading workshops if relevant.
- Create professional communications to campus partners and design materials and brochures when necessary.
- Complete and submit all required receipts and other documentation to the SSS Director, who has authority over the project’s budget.
