Project Manager for the Vermont Wood Works Council Internship Program

Job Summary
This is a short-term, limited-scope contract position (1099), with the potential to continue depending on how the project develops. This job requires state-wide travel.

The Vermont Wood Works Council (VWWC) is seeking a project manager to implement the internship phase of a workforce development grant focused on the secondary wood products industry in Vermont.

The project manager will work to implement an internship program based upon research completed surrounding the skills important to the woodworking industry in Vermont. This research included taking an inventory of existing businesses and jobs, machinery, and technology in use, skillsets, training required, wage expectations, etc. to develop a data report. The project manager will use the collected data to administrate a state-wide internship program. Details can be found below.

This role reports to the President of the Board and its Board of Directors.

The project manager will:

  • Prepare data report to be shared with educational partners, training centers, and the public, and concurrently introduce the internship program to those partners.
  • Engage and collaborate with centers on review of current curriculum and needed updates.
  • Elaborating off of the work completed by the VWWC board, create a structure for the internship program based on the diversity of skills, needs, business locations, the pool of candidates, etc.
  • Reach out to industry employers to assess interest in an internship program, support the creation of a one-page internship plan, and finalize agreements between VWWC and businesses.
  • Conduct preliminary review of internship applicants.
  • Coordinate with hosting businesses to select interns and sign agreements with interns.
  • Manage and evaluate the internship program to ensure its efficiency and effectiveness,

making tweaks where needed.

  • Follow up at the end of internship program with businesses to measure success.

Compensation

  • Compensation: $25-$40/hour, depending on experience

The Vermont Wood Works Council is a 501c(6) trade association formed in 1996 that represents primary and secondary woodworking companies and businesses in Vermont. Our members produce quality hardwood furniture, bowls, toys, carvings, flooring, windows, doors, and much more. Our mission is to support the industry in Vermont and promote its long-term viability by expanding members' presence in the marketplace, ensuring a sustainable supply of raw materials, increasing workforce skills, and acting as responsible employers and community members.
