What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Technician position at Vernon College?
The Grounds Technician is responsible to the Supervisors of Grounds. This is a security sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)
Specific duties include:
1. To perform activities necessary to the maintenance of grounds and related equipment of the College.
2. To assist in routine maintenance and repair of grounds related power tools and mowers.
3. To assist in the maintenance of all landscaped areas of the physical plant.
4. To assist in the trimming and watering of all trees, shrubbery, flower beds, grass, etc.
5. To assist in maintaining the cleanliness of all walkways and parking areas.
6. To assist in the general maintenance and operation of all areas of the physical plant upon assignment.
7. To assist in setting up for special programs.
8. To be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
9. To assist in the maintenance of water lines/sprinkler systems on campus.
10. To assist in the installation of new water lines/sprinkler systems.
11. To assume special assignments by the Supervisor of Grounds or the Director of Physical Plant.

Experience and Training: Verifiable experience performing routine maintenance of grounds and related equipment.
Education: High School Diploma
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of lawn equipment maintenance and use, knowledge of general landscaping, experience with sprinkler system a plus, ability to lift minimum of 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications: 2 years verifiable experience.
Minimum Educational Qualifications: GED
Salary or Salary Range: This is a full time 12 month position with full time benefits. The salary for this position is $28,461. Applications will be accepted until filled. This position is available March 24th, 2025.
