Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing current information on the administration of the Child Support Unit within the Department of Human Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicates with the public, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, direct, explain, and inform.
- Answers telephones, directs calls, and takes messages.
- Receives, sorts, date stamps, and distributes daily mail, deliveries, and messages as directed.
- Performs routine clerical tasks including scanning, filing, sorting, recording, form ordering, and typing as required.
- Maintains and files correspondence and reports.
- Acts as receptionist and does basic book and record keeping.
- Receipts child support payments before providing to a case worker for further processing.
- Operates and maintains office machines, such as photocopiers, scanners, facsimile machines, voicemail systems, and personal computers.
- Maintains and orders office supplies.
- Basic KIDS data entry, including file prep.
- Takes meeting minutes for meetings as directed.
- Maintains organization of the Child Support Agency.
- When advised and directed, serves as a backup for the Administrative Assistant for the Department of Human Services.

- Responsible for working safely and following safety practices and standards of the facility; responsible for reporting and/or correcting any existing or potential safety or accident hazard.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and others.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions.
- Maintains brochures, postings, and legal notices for public viewing.
- Performs related work as required or directed.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, and move around for extended periods.
- Proficiency in keyboarding and using office equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers.
- Capable of lifting and carrying light to moderate office supplies.
- Visual acuity to read printed materials and view computers screen for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and perform tasks such as filing and organizing paperwork.
- Ability to communicate with the public and Vernon County staff in-person and on the phone.
- Involves minimal potential and/or direct exposure to blood or body fluids.
Education and Training Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED; requires three years recent office experience with demonstrated competency in advanced word processing, bookkeeping, and computer skills.
- In evaluating candidates for this position, the County may consider a combination of education, experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with adequate auto insurance to meet minimum County requirements, or access to reliable transportation for city and rural travel.
- Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Pay: $18.78 - $24.57 per hour
