What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Microbiologist position at Vero Diagnostics?
The Clinical Microbiologist is responsible for performing identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of specimens and reporting test results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain operations of the Clinical Microbiology laboratory including testing, instrumentation maintenance, cross-training, competency assessment, proficiency evaluation, documentation and inventory maintenance
- Responsible for testing different types of specimens and having the hands-on experience of culturing and identifying bacterial/fungal pathogens and setting up antimicrobial susceptibility testing on isolates
- Performs Quality Control processes to establish acceptability of use for of microbiological materials following regulatory guidelines.
- Participates in verification and validation studies for process improvements, new equipment, and new technology transfer at the discretion of the operations and/or Laboratory Director.
- Contributes to ongoing process improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified as Testing Personnel for high complexity testing AND a minimum of 2 years bench experience in Microbiology (required)
- BS or MS Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences
- Certified MT or MLT from American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to promote teamwork in a positive work environment
- In-depth knowledge of antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) for different specimen types and familiarity with CLSI guidelines
