What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meteorological Technician-Aviation Weather Observer position at Vero Technical Support, Inc?
A part-time Aviation Weather Observer position is currently available at the Indianapolis International Airport.
General job description/duties include:
- Operate and augment a computerized weather observing system known as the Automated Surface Observing System or ASOS. This system obtains crucial meteorological data which measures, computes and expeditiously distributes current information such as wind velocity, visibility, weather phenomena, sky condition, temperature/dewpoint, atmospheric pressure, as well as other remarks considered significant for aviation operations.
- Manually measure, observe, record, and disseminate all meteorological information previously mentioned in the event of system failure.
- Maintain terminal weather watch and keep abreast of changes in weather elements. Knowledge of ASOS operations and procedures is preferred.
The individual will work primarily Sat/Sun during various shifts (ideally 16 hours per week, but at least 8 hours per week). There is a potential to work more hours Mon-Fri by filling in for regular and other part-time employees who take time off because of vacation, administrative functions, illness, etc.
Pay is currently $28.54 per hour with an extra 10% bonus for working 6pm-6am. An additional $7.00 is earned on top of base pay for every hour worked. The additional $7.00, known as a “Health and Welfare“ benefit, can either be contributed to a company 401k plan or paid in cash along with base pay. Pay increases with both hourly pay and H&W benefit will be occurring in the future.
The prospective candidate will be working for a federal government contractor who provides services for the Federal Aviation Administration.
