The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace. This includes conducting risk assessments, training employees on safety practices, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and leading initiatives to improve the overall safety culture within the organization.
General Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop and implement comprehensive EHS policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with EHS regulations.
- Develop emergency response plans and conduct drills.
- Develop JSA’s to determine the safest way to complete tasks.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Maintain records and documentation as required by regulatory agencies.
- Stay updated on changes in EHS regulations and standards.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to determine causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures and ensure compliance
- Promote awareness of safety practices and procedures across the organization.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and submit reports to management and regulatory agencies as required.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities.
- Track and report on key EHS metrics and performance indicators.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Lead initiatives to improve the organization's EHS performance.
- Lead safety committee and provide leadership report outs
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)) is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an EHS role.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using EHS management software and tools.
Work Environment:
- The EHS Specialist will spend time in both office settings and manufacturing environments.
