VersAbility is seeking a dedicated and skilled Grounds Worker to join our team at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. As a Grounds Worker, you will play a critical role in maintaining the visual appeal and functionality of the facility's landscapes, gardens, and general outdoor areas.
Our Grounds Worker position participates in the Ability One program; allowing individuals with significant disabilities to work in various positions within our Government Contracted positions.

Responsibilities:
1. Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks, such as mowing, edging, weeding, trimming trees, shrubs, and hedges to ensure a well-kept and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
2. Operate and maintain various grounds keeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, edger's, blowers, and powered and hand tools.
3.Responsible for maintaining quality standards as determined by the Government Quality Assurance Evaluator.
4. Keep walkways, parking lots, and outdoor gathering areas clean and free of debris by sweeping, pressure washing, and removing trash regularly.
5. Conduct regular inspections of grounds to identify and address any safety hazards, such as fallen branches, uneven walkways, or damaged structures.
7. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on grounds keeping equipment as needed, including troubleshooting and minor repairs to ensure their proper functioning.
8. Collaborate with other staff members and supervisors to ensure efficient coordination of tasks and timely completion of projects.
9. Follow established safety guidelines and procedures at all times in order to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to pass a military background screening to obtain base access required
- A minimum of six months of experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping is preferred.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs. independently.
- Ability to safely operate grounds keeping equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
- Knowledge of basic maintenance and cleaning of grounds keeping equipment is a plus.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing demands.
