Scope and Purpose of Position

Ensures that the frame matches tray work order. Verifies shape and cuts the lenses down to the proper size using a computerized roughing/milling machine (edger). Performs support functions within the edging area to include basic upkeep of the area.

Essential Functions

  • Prioritize tray processing flow as dictated by color code system.
  • Select appropriate job number for processing.
  • Ability to properly turn on main power, initialize edger startups, perform reboots and recovers from edger/robot errors.
  • Correctly load and remove trays from the stacker.
  • Validate shape display to job in process.
  • Edge lenses to correct size, pin bevel and mount lenses onto frame.
  • Accurately place an appropriate cosmetically acceptable pin bevel on lens.
  • Accurately place the grove for various lens designs, determine proper blade depth and utilize V-bevel to adjust size or shape of a lens.
  • Properly identify if slippage has occurred during the edging process.
  • Clean grinding chambers, sizing contacts, Z axis bearings, drive motor shafts and coolant reservoirs.
  • Validate operation, clean lens feelers, adjust sizing, bevel placement and safety bevel.
  • Perform LMU calibration.
  • Ability to communicate and escalate with peers and principles.
  • May mentor and coach other associates as needed.
  • Ensure and maintain the cleanliness of equipment and workstation.
  • Practice and comply with all requirements of our Quality Management System (QMS), prescribed safety and hazardous materials handling procedures, and Federal/State laws regulating hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.

Education & Experience

  • High Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of related manufacturing experience preferred.

Competencies

  • Must be able to read English to understand written procedures, hazardous warning, etc.
  • Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to think logically in following procedures and instructions

General problem solving abilities

  • Ability to work varying schedules to include nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to stand, use hands and fingers to handle, feel, pick or pinch, and talk or hear most of the time. The associate is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The noise level in this location is moderate (use of computers, printers and machines).
