Who You Are:

The Maintenance Engineer (ME) is a key role responsible for conducting comprehensive facility and equipment assessments, ensuring compliance with USPS maintenance policies, and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency and asset reliability. The Maintenance Engineer will work closely with Maintenance Managers to standardize maintenance practices, enhance equipment uptime, and improve facility conditions. This position requires frequent travel and on-site engagement with USPS mail processing facilities nationwide. A list of locations is provided below.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct quarterly maintenance assessments of USPS mail processing facilities using USPS-provided templates and rubrics.
  • Evaluate and score facility and equipment conditions to ensure compliance with USPS maintenance standards.
  • Assist Maintenance Managers in improving the Facility Condition Score per USPS guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with USPS maintenance policies, preventive maintenance schedules, and safety regulations.
  • Support Maintenance Managers in implementing preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Adhere to OSHA, EPA, and USPS safety and environmental compliance standards.
  • Reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) through proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Ensure timely execution of preventive maintenance tasks and corrective actions to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with plant leadership and Maintenance Assessment Managers to review progress and resolve maintenance compliance issues.
  • Train Maintenance Managers on job responsibilities, USPS maintenance policies, and best practices.
  • Submit quarterly Plant Maintenance Assessment Reports summarizing facility conditions and compliance status.
  • Develop quarterly Plant Action Plans addressing maintenance deficiencies and improvement strategies.
  • Provide monthly reports detailing technical coaching sessions and key issues encountered.
  • Submit compliance and operational issue reports as required.
  • Provide biweekly quality control reports assessing work effectiveness against contract requirements.
  • Travel extensively, covering multiple facilities within a designated region.
  • Conduct on-site evaluations, audits, and follow-ups to maintain maintenance program consistency.
  • Work with Maintenance Assessment Managers and Plant Leadership to align facility improvements with USPS goals.

What You'll Bring:

  • Engineering degree or a related technical field (mechanical, electrical, or facilities engineering) OR 10 years of direct maintenance experience.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in building or equipment maintenance, with hands-on experience managing mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of building maintenance standards, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, material management, and fire/security systems.
  • Prior experience working with or for USPS is highly desirable.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) or equivalent maintenance tracking software.
  • Strong written and oral communication, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to coach and influence stakeholders effectively.
  • Capability to document issues, provide written guidance, and recommend action plans.
  • All personnel must pass USPS background checks, including security clearance and drug screening.
  • Maintenance Engineers are required to travel nationwide up to 60-70% of the time.
  • Compliance with USPS security protocols and facility access procedures is mandatory.
  • Completion of two weeks of classroom training at the Maintenance Technical Support Center (MTSC) in Oklahoma, followed by at least one week of on-site shadowing at a USPS plant, is required.
  • Activity reports must be submitted daily for the first eight weeks and weekly thereafter.
  • Reports must follow USPS-approved templates and be submitted in accordance with designated timelines.
  • Must possess and maintain an active and valid driver's license without restrictions.
  • Must be proficient in English, both written and verbal, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
  • Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
  • Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate's start date.

Expected Salary: Competitive salary based on experience and location.
