What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Representative (BDR) position at Verse?
Location: San Francisco preferred (open to remote)
What is Verse?
Organizations today are under growing pressure to navigate the transition to clean energy — not just to meet sustainability goals, but to manage risk, control costs, and build long-term resilience. Yet the complexity of energy markets and a lack of accessible tools have made it difficult for most companies to take meaningful action. Verse was created to change that.
Our mission is to make the case for clean energy irrefutable. Through our AI-powered platform, Aria, we help organizations plan, procure, and operate clean energy to achieve their financial and sustainability goals. Verse transforms clean energy ambition into action — giving businesses the clarity and confidence to lead in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
The Role
We're looking for a Business Development Representative (BDR) to help us scale outbound pipeline generation, drive quality meetings, and partner tightly with Account Executives (AEs) to close more revenue. If you're a high-energy prospector who loves building pipeline from scratch and knows how to break into accounts with smart, targeted outreach—this one's for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and profile target accounts across a discreet set of Enterprise Accounts
- Build pipeline through outbound prospecting—phone, email, LinkedIn, SMS—with a bias for personalization and testing
- Follow up with inbound leads from marketing to qualify and convert them to meetings
- Partner closely with Account Executives to define target lists, build account maps, and execute outbound plays
- Field inbound interest from channel partners and alliances to co-sell or tap into warm intros when possible
- Prepare account research and pre-call briefs to increase meeting conversion rates
- Maintain clean, accurate records in Hubspot and have a familiarity with GTM AI tools like Clay.
- Contribute to the evolution of outbound messaging, sequences, and playbooks through rapid iteration and feedback loops
- Consistently hit or exceed weekly/monthly targets for activities, meetings booked, and pipeline generated
- Occasionally support field events, virtual events, and partner-led initiatives to drive demand
What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
- 2-3 years of experience in business development or outbound sales at a SaaS company
- Proven track record of generating qualified meetings that convert into revenue
- Comfortable targeting corporate Energy Buyers, Sustainability Managers, and Heads of Finance.
- Confident communicator over phone, email, and social—clear, concise, and value-led
- Strong organizational skills and time management—can prioritize across inbound, outbound, and AE collaboration
- Familiar with Hubspot, Clay, and LinkedIn Sales Navigator
- Able to learn quickly, iterate often, and adapt to changing playbooks or priorities
What Will Make You Standout (Preferred Qualifications)
- Exposure and or experience in climate tech.
