Job Description
As a Senior Systems Engineer, the person develops and maintains stable, reliable, and secure Linux systems. The person mentors a team of junior Linux admins and NOC personnel to troubleshoot and optimize Vertafore’s Linux environment.
In this role, the person is expected to have a strong knowledge of Oracle or RedHat Enterprise Linux, its engineering and administration. He/She has excellent problem-solving skills and Linux troubleshooting skills. The person should have passion to continuously improve services, enhance security and optimize the service performance.
Core Requirements and Responsibilities:
Essential job functions included but are not limited to the following:
· Provide day to day support to RHEL/oracle Linux servers through various ticketing tools like service now and monitoring tools like Dynatrace/SolarWinds/CloudWatch.
· Managed Security, Backup, Disaster Recovery, Performance Monitoring and Fine-tuning on Linux (RHEL) systems.
· Primarily responsible for installation, configuration, support, and lifecycle management of all Linux systems/Oracle Linux, across Vertafore’s data centers, cloud and office locations
· Own, define and drive projects to support business requirements and to enhance the Linux environment performance, availability, and security.
· Ability to manage LVM, Multipathing, NFS on Linux.
· Interpret security advisories and design, implement and test control measures.
· Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to individuals of various technical ability.
· Writes and maintains complete and concise technical documentation.
· Serve as the escalation point for Linux incidents.
· Experience with shell scripting and configuration management tools such as Ansible or Chef to perform server hardening.
· Knowledge of networking protocols, firewall management, and security practices in a Linux environment.
