Description

Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on and off equipment inspection, repair, technical directive incorporation for flight equipment such as parachutes and related components, seat pans, helmets, oxygen masks, flight vest and components and other equipment normally associated with this aircraft maintenance specialty. Tasks will include Organizational/Intermediate maintenance requirements.

  • Must have extensive knowledge of the equipment utilized by the pilots and in the aircraft for which he is certified.
  • Must become qualified and certified in explosives handling personnel qualification and certification program in accordance with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 and 8023.3 series.
  • Must be customer oriented.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Inspect, test, repair, repack, and/or manufacture (ALSS) aircraft and related aircrew survival, aviators personal equipment, support equipment, oxygen components and accessories in accordance with applicable maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs), Navy Instructions, manufacturers' manuals, company instructions and other approved data.
  • Be capable of operating support equipment necessary to perform the functions above.
  • Coordinate with supervision and Quality Assurance to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or repair procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate records of all work accomplished.
  • Train aircrew in proper use of safety, water, and survival equipment.
  • Be capable of operating, adjusting, cleaning, and lubing a sewing machine, sew heavy and/or light material and vinyl by machine or manually as directed by special instruction for removal, installation, and/or minor repair of flight clothing.
  • Perform duties of Aviator's Breathing Oxygen (ABO) Analyst when authorized and designated.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.
  • Must be able to work day shift, night shift or weekend duty and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team or detachment as required.
  • Will have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy.
  • Performs aircraft inventory, acceptance and transfer inspections.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by management.
  • Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction as required.
  • Maintains and/or completes required records and applicable maintenance forms
  • Performs daily duties normally associated with this specialty.
  • Practice good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention and safety at all times.
  • Assists in aircraft/equipment movement and flight line foreign object prevention walks.
  • Operates SE, flight line vehicles and other support equipment as required.
  • Qualified to perform corrosion detection, treatment, prevention and documentation per customer/management instructions/directions on aircraft and associated equipment.
  • Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft forms and VIDS/MAF and NALCOMIS/OOMA.
  • Will have knowledge of and understand basic supply procedures. Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials and equipment as required.
  • Must comply with established General and Industrial Safety Rules and Regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.
  • Comply with Company and facility Hazardous Material Programs
  • Keeps shop area clean and participates in hanger cleanup daily.
  • Must have a collateral duty assigned by management.

    Qualifications Standards:

    • The Aircraft Mechanic-Parachute Rigger shall be a qualified Parachute Rigger "A" School graduate or equivalent in accordance with the COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series.
    • Shall possess a minimum of three years (within the last five years) practical experience at the aircraft organizational or intermediate maintenance level is required.
    • Must have successfully completed approved course or training as required by Company, State/Local Govt, DOD, regulation/Instruction.
    • Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention.
    • Personnel shall be qualified according to their field of expertise and the level of maintenance assigned, i.e., "O" or "I" level.
    • Will Assist other work centers when directed by maintenance.
    • Must possess or be able to obtain a secret clearance.
    • Must be a US citizen and completed high school or equivalent.
    • Must read, write, speak, and understand English.

    Physical Demand and Environmental Conditions:

    • Physical Demands:
      • This classification activity is usually accomplished in an office environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with office activities.
      • May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds.
      • Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
    • Work Environment:
      • The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc.
      • May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.
      • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
      • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

    Licensing/Certification Requirements as may be Directed for Job Specialty or as Directed by Management:

    • Driver's License
    • Egress/Explosive System Checkout
    • Support Equipment Operator as required for assigned tasks

    • Emergency Reclamation
    • Respirator
    • CPR Certification
    • Ordnance
