V2X Aerospace Solutions is seeking a Whole Life Engineering Section Manager who is passionate about leading a team of systems engineers who are committed to making our customer's missions successful. The Whole Life Systems Engineering team provides systems engineering excellence in design, development, integration, and test activities across DoD platforms on land air and sea. The team focuses on the "ilities" of systems engineering which includes but is not limited to such areas as availability, maintainability, reliability, safety, human factors, and usability. Furthermore, this team includes logistics analysis, technical publication and training program development specialists. The team supports a wide variety of programs in lifecycle stages from cradle to grave and in execution frameworks from waterfall to various agile frameworks. The focus is on the development and sustainment of products across multiple domains and multiple technologies. The Systems Engineering Section Manager is responsible for the performance and development of the engineers in the section. This includes defining and managing necessary skill competency models and gap closure plans. Furthermore, as the Whole Life Engineering Section Manager it will be expected that the selected candidate can provide expertise in one of more of the technical areas. The Section Manager will have direct engagement on teams, leading and driving success on multiple programs.
- People Management
- Leadership and management of 15-whole life engineers located primarily in Indianapolis, IN and Orlando, FL.
- Supporting career development of the individuals in the section through technical and leadership training, program rotations for exposure to a broad set of customers and technologies, and performance feedback to foster individual & career growth.
- Performing workforce planning to meet program and project requirements. Including the assignment of personnel to meet program needs and hiring/recruiting to support department and business growth objectives.
- Proactively communicating across the section with an established cadence to communicate clear priorities and organization updates.
- Holding crucial/difficult conversations including addressing performance issues to improve employee performance.
- Maintaining a strong succession plan for key positions across programs.
- Program / Business Support
- Delivery of customer commitments for the systems engineering performance on programs within the department, and the coaching of team leaders within the department to achieve program goals.
- Partnering with Chief Engineers, Chief Technologist, and other Engineering Discipline Managers to deliver high quality proposals and meet business and customer commitments in our program results.
- Maintaining constant and regular engagement for all supported programs to ensure the team performance meets or exceeds the program plan.
- Working closely with program and business area managers to ensure customer satisfaction and business alignment. Interfacing with customers and users to build relationships and develop roadmaps of solutions to meet their needs.
- Driving new business growth through proactive engagement to identify on-contract growth (ECPs), lead white paper development, engineering estimations, and proposal responses.
- Engineering Organizational Support
- Drive improvement in organizational implementation of the "ilities" across the Engineering Directorate and all of V2X.
- Engage with a development of a cohesive approach to address technical publication and training program work
- Support Engineering improvement initiatives to include innovation, technologies, and methodologies.
- Delivering weekly and monthly reports detailing engineering highlights and key employee accomplishments.
- Establishing and executing a Section Strategy aligned with the Department's vision and goals.
- Facilitating and encouraging mentoring and knowledge dissemination across the organization.
- Individual Skills
- Maintaining a professional attitude, to serve as an example to the team, with team members, other functional organizations, internal and external customers.
- Communicating effectively to large groups and senior leaders.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 12 years of full lifecycle systems engineer experience working in the DoD development industry.
- Experience in DoD tactical platform system integration
- Experience working in multiple development frameworks
- Expertise in more than one of the specialty domains.
- Ability to manage, train and mentor engineers.
- Very strong organizational and team development skills
- Proven ability to lead an engineering team through the acquisition, proposal, and program execution phases of the system lifecycle.
- Experience in developing Basis of Estimate (BOE)s for FAR 15.2 compliant proposals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of other related engineering disciplines (e.g. Software Engineering, Specialty Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Configuration Management, Quality, Cybersecurity)
- Experience briefing (both written and oral) effectively to all levels of the organization, from peers to senior management
- Working knowledge of Earned Value Management.
- Current in the technologies, methodologies, processes, and tools used in systems engineering.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance.
Desired Skills:
- Master's Degree in Systems Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline.
- Experience bidding and oversight of Firm Fixed Price (FFP) programs.
- Experience in presenting to DoD Safety Review Boards across the different departments
- Experience in the application of Model Based Systems Engineering
- Experience working on international programs.
- Experience in capture management: create/reviewing RFPs, SOWs, BOEs, tech volumes, proposals.
- Experience engineering pursuit/proposal leader
- Existing DOD Secret Clearance
- Experience in software design and implementation in embedded systems for DoD platforms
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics and 15 years of relevant experience - or
- Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics and 8 years of relevant experience
