This role emphasizes menu compliance, cost controls, and vendor relations. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and maintaining nutritional databases, ensuring adherence to USDA guidelines, optimizing food service operations, fostering positive vendor relationships, and providing critical support in the preparation of RFPs for food service clients. Vertex Education is hiring a detail-oriented and service-driven Nutrition Coordinator to join our Vertex Support Services (VSS) team. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and maintaining nutritional databases, ensuring adherence to USDA guidelines, optimizing food service operations, fostering positive vendor relationships, and providing critical support in the preparation of RFPs for food service clients. This position is integral in ensuring high-quality, compliant meal services across multiple regions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Nutritional Database Management:
- Develop and manage a comprehensive nutritional database utilizing Titan School Solutions for all ingredients and recipes associated with client menus.
- Design compliant, engaging menu cycles that encourage increased student participation.
- Optimize per-plate costs for all menu offerings while adhering to budgetary guidelines.
- Provide training for key personnel at partner schools on the use of production records and how to generate relevant reports.
- Ensure the database is consistently updated with accurate pricing and nutritional information.
- Monitor and update student allergy information, adjusting menus as necessary to ensure safety and compliance.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all relevant vendors, including food service management companies, caterers, and broadline suppliers.
- Oversee vendor performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and service level agreements.
- Guide partner schools through the bidding process when required, ensuring full adherence to federal, state, and school procurement regulations. This includes drafting Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or Invitations for Bid (IFBs), distributing bid packets, coordinating vendor meetings throughout the process, compiling bid data, and providing recommendations to schools for informed decision-making.
- Provide support to campuses in ensuring compliance with Wellness Policy guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Client Coordinator to propose menu ideas to partner schools for holidays and special events.
- Partner with schools to ensure all menu-related tasks are completed in accordance with relevant grant requirements and audit standards.
- Participate in relevant training sessions for each state where we are serving clients.
- Review current research to determine health and nutrition-related trends and developments in order to make program recommendations.
- Have a strategic mindset: Provide expert guidance and education to clients on best practices for compliance with federal and state nutrition regulations.
- Manage ambiguity: Confer with clients to resolve issues, prioritize needs, and find solutions.

- Drive operational excellence: Continuously improve systems, processes, and service delivery to contribute to the company’s revenue growth.
- Deliver exceptional service: Keep the needs of clients at the forefront of decision-making, while adhering to NSLP compliance and state requirements.
- Have an innovative mind: Identify opportunities to streamline administrative processes and improve efficiency in compliance procedures, leveraging technology and automation where possible.
- Display a hungry heart: Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment on compliance requirements and support overall business objectives.
Education, Certifications, And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field or 3 years of related experience including menu planning, preferably in child nutrition.
- ServSafe Management Certification.
- Strong understanding of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with menu planning software, preferably Titan School Solutions.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
- Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.
- May be required to obtain additional background checks when traveling to partner schools.
- Travel to client locations may be required from time to time.
- Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time; to enter data into a computer keyboard; to research identified job-related duties using the Internet and other resources; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; present in a professional manner; and the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
