Company Description
Vertical Horizons, a venture-backed MIT spin-out, is leading the development of vertical gallium nitride (GaN) power electronics which will revolutionize industries such as data centers, energy systems, renewable energy and electric vehicles (EVs).
Role Description
As a rapidly growing startup, we are seeking a full-time Senior Semiconductor R&D Engineer to help drive the commercialization of vertical GaN technology and lead our engineering team through its critical stages of growth. This role offers the opportunity to be hands-on in shaping the development of a world-changing technology looking to push the limits of power electronics, and your contributions will directly impact the success of the company and the industries we aim to disrupt. We have a preference for candidates who will work from our office at Greentown Labs (Somerville, MA), but open to considering remote candidates.
Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, physics, materials science or device engineering.
- Focus on gallium nitride (GaN) or other wide bandgap semiconductor device design and fabrication with 5 years of professional work experience is strongly preferred.
Key Skills
- Experience planning and coordinating device development in shared fab and foundry environments. Experience with external fab technology transfers and CMOS-compatible GaN process development is highly encouraged
- Power device design experience in GaN or SiC.
- In-depth knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes
- TCAD simulations for device modeling and optimization
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in python/MATLAB or similar for data analysis
- GDS layout experience
- Experience in wide bandgap power device failure analysis
- On-wafer characterization of automated DC/CV/dynamic testing. Power device experience preferred
- Discrete component characterization
- Execute analytical calculations, simulations, design, build and measure application evaluation boards as needed to perform the tasks
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and with external partners.
