Sr. Firmware Engineer

Job Summary

The Sr. Firmware Engineer provides technical expertise in the development of embedded control software applications and infrastructure. The Firmware Engineer works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. The Firmware Engineer exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and builds productive internal/external working relationships. The Firmware Engineer receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. 

Responsibilities:

• Design and implementation of firmware and software components.
• Write clear code conforming to company standards.
• Maintain revision control using modern tools.
• Work closely with other developers to develop/debug/test product features.
• Provide design, unit test, and integration test documentation artifacts.
• Work with Development and Test/QA leadership to ensure product quality.
• Work closely with other corporate functions as required.
• Other tasks and activities as required by management.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 5 years of experience
• Experience with embedded Linux OS.
• Working knowledge of C/C , Python, and BASH languages (at least one of the three).
• Understanding of embedded systems, device drivers, control algorithms, process synchronization and related topics.
• Knowledge of Network and Server Management protocols such as SNMP, SMTP, TCP/IP.
• Ability to read a circuit-board schematic. 
• Strong hardware and firmware debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
• Experience with source-code revision-control tools.
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for delivering technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with software design principles is a plus including functional design of software components and libraries, understanding of object-oriented concepts, and understanding of Agile methods. 
• General understanding of computer security vulnerabilities and protection techniques.
• Well-developed cultural and communications skills.   
• Ability to work across all levels of the organization. 
• Experience with batteries and data centers is a plus.  
• Knowledge of source code version control tools like Git is a plus. 
• Additional, highly sought but optional, attributes: 
  • Experience working with and building Yocto Linux for embedded devices.
  • Experience with TI microprocessors. 
  • Experience coding in Rust.
