In the first year, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop and optimize emulsion and powder-based ingredient systems for cannabis-infused products, ensuring stability, scalability, and performance.
- Design and refine processes and formulations to meet evolving customer and market needs.
- Oversee pilot trials and scale-up processes for successful commercialization.
- Enhance processing design to improve emulsion, stability, sensory, and shelf-life.
- Analyze and optimize ingredient matrices to improve performance, stability, and bioavailability.
- Evaluate and develop production processes for efficiency and consistency.
- Develop and implement quality control points to effectively assess emulsion stability and functionality.
- Partner with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to refine formulations and optimize production.
- Assess and recommend processing equipment to align with formulation and manufacturing needs.
- Troubleshoot formulation and production challenges to ensure reproducibility and maintain high-quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, and quality standards specific to the cannabis and food industries.
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging food engineering technologies.
- Conduct research and development on novel food-grade emulsification techniques and processing technologies.
- Support and mentor a high-performing R&D team to foster a culture of innovation that combines creative thinking and risk-taking with structured, repeatable processes.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D, degree in Food Engineering, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in food or beverage process engineering, with a strong focus on manufacturing processes, and formulation development.
- Expertise in emulsification, homogenization, and scaling up formulations to ensure stability and commercial viability.
- Strong understanding of food-grade emulsifiers, stabilizers, surfactants, and processing unit operations , with the ability to design scalable manufacturing processes in line with food safety and quality control standards.
- Advanced analytical skills with hands-on experience using tools to measure particle size, rheology, shelf stability, and other emulsion system characteristics.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to think beyond standard food science applications to solve complex formulation and scalability challenges in a high-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to describe complex scientific concepts in an easy to understand way.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage other team members and collaborate effectively with executives.
- Must be a passionate champion for cannabis, although Vertosa does not require cannabis consumption for any employees.
