You’ll lead the integration of Vertosa’s emulsions into diverse formulations, optimizing stability, sensory performance, and processing compatibility while collaborating closely with R&D and clients to drive product success. From hands-on benchtop formulation to technical problem-solving and prototype demonstrations, you’ll have a hands-on role in accelerating innovation in the fast-evolving infused product market. In the first year, you will have the opportunity to:
- Integrate Vertosa’s emulsions into client formulations, ensuring ingredient and processing compatibility.
- Conduct stability and sensory evaluations to optimize quality and scalability.
- Enhance ingredient interactions and processing parameters to improve functionality and shelf-life.
- Develop and refine beverage and edible prototypes aligned with customer needs and market trends.
- Collaborate with R&D to tailor emulsions for specific applications and client requirements.
- Adapt formulations for various processing methods (e.g., hot-fill, cold-fill, carbonation, pasteurization).
- Troubleshoot ingredient compatibility issues to improve emulsion performance in different product matrices.
- Lead technical discussions with clients, providing formulation and processing guidance.
- Present and demonstrate prototypes to accelerate product development.
- Stay informed on ingredient innovations, processing technologies, and industry trends to drive new product opportunities.
- Act as a technical expert, advising customers on ingredient interactions, processing conditions, and packaging compatibility.
- Work with Technical Services and Quality teams to analyze and improve product performance.
- Conduct hands-on benchtop formulation to refine customer recipes.
- Support and mentor a high-performing R&D team to foster a culture of innovation that combines creative thinking and risk-taking with structured, repeatable processes.
To be successful as our Food Application Scientist, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in food and beverage formulation, product development, or food applications, including hands-on experience with benchtop formulation, prototype development, and sensory evaluation.
- Strong understanding of food and beverage ingredients (e.g., sweeteners, acids, preservatives, emulsifiers, etc.), their impact on product stability, and their performance under processing methods (e.g., homogenization, pasteurization, carbonation, retort, etc.).
- Strategic thinker with a track record of effectively troubleshooting ingredient and processing challenges in real-world applications.
- Passion for innovation combined with the ability to consistently deliver high-quality work in a high-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to describe complex scientific concepts in an easy to understand way.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage other team members and collaborate effectively with executives.
- Must be a passionate champion for cannabis, although Vertosa does not require cannabis consumption for any employees.
