JOB SUMMARY
An Installation Technician is responsible for executing smooth and profitable completions of assigned Sunbelt Gated Access Systems projects through impeccable work as well as effective planning, delegation, and training of Installation Apprentices. The Installation Technician is also responsible for communicating needs and progress effectively with the Installation Manager and General Contractors.
As an Installation Technician for Sunbelt Gated Access Systems, you are an ambassador of our brand. You must take pride in treating everyone that crosses our path with the utmost respect and professionalism.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Perform site surveys, capturing any important measurements and notes for the Estimate in Field Aware
- Coordinate scheduling for Inspections as needed
- Communicate swiftly and effectively with office staff through phone and email
- Facilitate walkthroughs and provide training with end users on new systems
- Inspect and test work to ensure proper installation and operations
- Assist with service work when necessary
- Keep a detailed and regularly updated list of open items, materials needed, jobs needs and questions for the Installation Manager, and any other miscellaneous issues organized and easy to reference
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Management
- Ensure all crew members are punctual, documenting any time and attendance issues and reporting them to the Installation Manager
- Communication with immediate needs to Installation Manager
- Recognize field generated changes that need to become a Delay or Request for Change and submit paperwork to Installation Manager. Keep up with Time and Material documentation and tracking.
- Be proactive in continued education and on-the-job hours needed to any necessary licenses or certifications and maintain it once it is acquired.
- Keep trips to retailers to a minimum by communicating effectively with the Warehouse Manager, Installation Manager, and/or Service Manager so that necessary parts and inventory are ordered and available in the warehouse
- Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout to be knowledgeable about dimensions and materials required
- Establish and maintain relationships with General Contractors and subcontractors when appropriate
- Oversee and work with Subcontractors to ensure they are performing quality work in the budgeted time
- Deliver, mount, hook-up, test and implement all components for gates and other access and security systems
- Use Work Order attachments to ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are loaded on the vehicle prior to mobilization
- Refer to necessary instruction manuals for completion of installation tasks
- Communicate effectively with Installation Apprentices and all personnel on site to ensure work is completed efficiently and effectively
- Actively engage in employee development to professionally mentor, train, coach, and guide Installation Apprentices on Installations, organization, safety, and cleanliness
- Help keep turnover as low as possible by treating staff with respect and dignity, informing the Installation Manager if theres warning signs of losing valuable talent, and nurturing a positive working environment and passion for the trade
- Inform the Installation Manager about problems and potential problems as early as possible
- Perform job site inspections, ensure sufficient materials and equipment are available, the areas are clean, and materials are organized, and that safety measures are being followed
- Maintain positive relationships with General Contractors and other trades on site through effective communication
- Capture daily progress notes and materials used in Field Aware at the end of each shift, starting and completing the jobs in Field Aware to ensure timely invoices
- Review Work Order attachments and job site prior to start of project to collect data and ensure necessary materials are ordered, equipment needed is available, ensuring Installation Manager is notified of any noteworthy obstacles to the project plan
MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE
- Deliver, mount, hook-up, test and implement all components for gates and other access and security systems
- Use work order attachments to ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are loaded on the vehicle prior to mobilization
- Actively engage in employee development to professionally mentor, train, coach, and guide Installation Apprentices on Installations, organization, safety, and cleanliness
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- The Installation Technician reports to the Installation Manager
- The Installation Apprentice reports to the Installation Technician.
REQUIRED EXPEREINCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum 1-year relevant experience in Security Access, Electrical, and/or Construction industry
- Certification or Trade School Diploma in Electrical and/or Mechanical Work- preferred
- Valid Drivers License
- Ability, skill, and knowledge to use a variety of construction equipment
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics- preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office (specifically MS Excel, MS Word) and/or Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Gmail)
- Proficiency in Field Service Management Software- preferred
- Safety-toed work boots

PHYCIAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIROMENT
- Most work is outdoors and not in climate-controlled areas. Will be exposed to extreme heat and some wind and rain
- Must be able to crawl through small spaces
- Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, walking, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding
- Must be able to lift 80 pounds at a time
- This job is 40-50 hours a week, more hours may be required
- Driving to work sites, Sunbelt Headquarters, and vendors for materials and equipment within a 600-mile radius of Jacksonville. Overnight stays are regularly required
