JOB SUMMARY: Your Flight Plan!
The Staff Accountant is a mid-level position, who is responsible for all the governmental accounting and financial reconciliations for a portfolio of Special Districts. This position assists the District Managers by providing the financial reporting, accounts payable/receivable reports, processes check runs and completes monthly bank reconciliations. Specials Districts use a modified accrual-based accounting standard generally accepted in governmental accounting. The Staff Accountant possesses a proficiency in using the Internet, Microsoft Office, including a strong knowledge of Word, Excel, and Adobe-PDF’s, able to navigate back-office software and servers for record keeping purposes. This position reports to the Accounting Manager, Controller and the Vice President of District Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Ready to Fly!
- Provide Excellent Customer Service.
- Create and maintain databases and filing systems, whether electronic or paper.
- Type professionally, with minimal errors, creating and editing formal documents.
- Provide accounting assistance to the District Managers.
- Communicate with clients, vendors, and business partners.
- Use bookkeeping software, QuickBooks, spreadsheets and databases.
- Use of AIA pay applications.
- Process ACH, online payments, credit card payments, other account payments.
- Governmental accounts payable/receivable, produce aging detail summaries.
- Produce monthly balance sheet and unaudited financial statements.
- Process check requests and expense report on a regular basis.
- Accurately review, code, and process vendor invoices; perform monthly reconciliations.
- Check for accuracy in figures, postings, and reports.
- Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts, reconcile or note and report any differences found in the records; review and reconcile invoice discrepancies.
- Maintain many vendor accounts while staying in compliance with policies and procedures.
- Perform data entry associated with accounts payable and payroll.
- Audit and process credit card bills.
- Properly set up preferred vendors in the accounting system, ensuring W-9’s and other vendor documents are accurately filled out and recorded in the system.
- Address and respond to District Manager, client and vendor inquiries.
- The Staff Accountant – Governmental position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: The Wingspan Needed!
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred, or 2-3 years of experience in lieu of degree
- 2-3 years’ experience with governmental accounting, general accounting
- Highly Proficient with Microsoft Office tools
- Highly Proficient with QuickBooks, AIA Payment Application, and bank reconciliations
- Experience/Knowledge with Special Districts and Community Management Accounting is preferred.
- Occasional travel may be required.

- This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
