JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Mechanical Engineering will provide overall leadership to the Mechanical Building Systems department.
JOB DUTIES:
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Mechanical Building Systems.
- Meet with Owners and Design-Build Contractors to glean mechanical functional and program requirements and select/develop simple and elegant mechanical systems to satisfy those requirements.
- Perform field observations and obtain information on existing conditions on select projects.
- Provide proactive coordination with other design disciplines on select projects.
- Lead mechanical engineer for select projects; including supervising assigned mechanical drafting and engineering resources assigned to the Project.
- Perform mechanical analysis, studies, detailed designs, calculations, schedules, inspections on specific projects.
- Prepare and/or review mechanical specifications.
- Prepare and/or review mechanical construction cost estimates.
- Prepare monthly reports for mechanical work.
- Tailor and assign mechanical team members to select mechanical projects.
- Actively identify and manage risk for clients and the Company.
- Weekly review of Mechanical Building Systems Team staff member timesheets to verify proper coding.
- Track progress and productivity of the work of the Mechanical Building Systems Team.
- Overseeing and sealing mechanical building systems work.
- Prepare mechanical scope or work, deliverables and man-hour budgets, and design schedule for select engineering proposals.
- Contribute to mechanical change management/control.
- Contribute to monthly mechanical project controls reports.
- Comply with Company’s Quality Control and Project Management procedures.
- Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a Vestal Corporation office.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and able to operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Must be able to move about the office to access office equipment and other office buildings within the Vestal office complex.
- This position frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience as Principal Mechanical Engineer.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) is required.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of design codes (ASHRAE, ASME, ANSI, PIP, IBC, IMC etc).
- Some familiarity with Sanitary Design including 3A standards and CGMP.
- Strong familiarity of HVAC and plumbing/piping materials and equipment preferred.
- Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite). Strong familiarity with REVIT (strongly preferred)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
- Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Ability to travel.
- Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
