Position Overview
The Laboratory Technician position will be more involved in detailed testing and use of equipment. Data collection as well as some analysis is expected. Successful candidate can note deviations in performance not anticipated. May occasionally have contact with internal and external customers and vendors. To perform chemical and physical analyses and tests required for research, development, or quality control of processes or products and to aid the relevant Research and Development Scientist.
Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative or quantitative analyses of materials using various standard and novel techniques.
- Sample preparation/cutting and polishing specimens/quality control/strength testing/material characterization.
- Perform routine analyses to check accuracy, applicability, and reasonableness of test data.
- Utilize observational analysis to bring key insights to product development.
- Record/organize/manage data and prepares simple charts or graphs.
- Accurately follow work instructions and/or established operating procedures and test methods.
- Operate laboratory instruments or equipment, maintaining a clean work environment.
- Provide and maintain safe work environment by participating in safety programs, committees, or teams and by conducting laboratory/plant safety audits.
- Provide technical support or assistance to engineers/scientists.
Qualifications & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associates/bachelor’s degree, technical certification or related work experience preferred.
- 1-3 years of related laboratory experience beneficial.
- Material Science, Ceramic Engineering preferred. Adjacent science and engineering degrees/experience also applicable (Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Metallurgy, Mechanical, etc..)

- Continuously stand up to 4 hours.
- Walking short distances through the department/building.
- Use hands/arms to pick and carry product and operate required equipment.
- Lift objects up to 30 lbs. with or without assistance.

- Hear with or without an assistive device.
- Read and write legibly.
Environmental Requirements:
- Able to work in high heat environments (short durations).
- Able to wear prescribed PPE.
- Able to work around inductive heating equipment.
