About the Role
The Director, Veterinarian Career Development, will focus on the attraction, growth and engagement of veterinary students and DVMs. Must be a veterinarian by fostering strong relationships and empowering DVMs at every career stage, this role will create programs that enhance employment experience and promote a culture of support and collaboration. The Director will travel frequently, visiting vet schools and engaging with DVMs in the field. A background in veterinary medicine, strategy development, and data tracking, along with a passion for supporting others, is essential.
Role Overview
Veterinary Student Engagement
- Travel extensively (50% of role) to visit veterinary schools, attend career fairs, and host events to educate students about the benefits of a career with Vetcor.
- Represent Vetcor’s caring and supportive culture to prospective DVMs.
Engagement Strategies
- Collaborate with Operations, Clinical, and Service Center leaders to identify and implement strategies that promote Associate DVM and Chief of Staff (COS) engagement.
- Develop programs to celebrate DVM milestones (work anniversaries, promotions, CE achievements, etc.) to foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
DVM Welcome Calls
- Contact newly hired DVMs within their first 90 days to introduce them to Vetcor’s programs, such as VetLife.
- Identify individual motivations and goals to support long-term retention and career growth, in collaboration with Regional Managers and COSAs.
DVM Exit Interview Management
- Design and execute an exit interview program to gather insights on DVM attrition drivers.
- Share anonymized data with leadership to inform retention strategies.
Alumni Program Management
- Create and manage an Alumni program to maintain strong relationships with former DVMs, with the goal of re-engaging them when appropriate job opportunities arise.
Succession Planning
- Collaborate with COSAs, Regional Managers, and Operations leaders to identify high-potential DVMs for future leadership roles.
- Maintain a pipeline of candidates for key leadership roles within the organization.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Regularly analyze DVM engagement and retention trends to identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare quarterly reports on program outcomes and key metrics related to engagement and retention.
Enhanced Recruitment Collaboration
- Shares insights from engagement and exit interviews with the Recruiting team to inform talent attraction strategies.
Collaboration on Organizational Initiatives
- Works cross-functionally on projects that impacts DVM engagement, including technology updates, practice management system enhancements and other quality-of-life improvements.
