Summary The incumbent serves as a Visual Information Specialist with primary responsibility for the technical management of content, quality, design, and style of the VAPHS internet and intranet websites. Secondary responsibilities include medical and public affairs photography, graphic design, and desktop publishing. This position will participate in an engaging, collaborative, integrated, team environment that supports learning, discovery and continuous improvements. Responsibilities Visual Information Specialist (Web & Graphic Design) : Coordinates, plans, maintains, promotes, designs and produces computer designed print and electronic visual information materials and photographically enhanced media. Responsible for editing, publishing and monitoring submissions from facility contributors to ensure grammatical and structural correctness as well as compliance. Suggests illustrations for incorporation, design layout, and converting the result to a finished product. Prepares arrangement or layout for graphic design projects by acquiring information about the subject. Applies technical knowledge and skill according to specifications. Designs visual products such as photographs, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, slides, charts, brochures, newsletters, flyers, publications and multimedia for presentations. Develops and designs visual products for high level briefings. Utilizes computer graphics to execute and design illustrations. Utilizes a variety of art media, methods, techniques and materials in the designs and execution of illustrations. Presents ideas or images and evoke responses from viewers. Evaluates advantages and / or limitations of particular methods. Provides technical assistance and advice on design issues to clients, managers and other employees. Research reference sources. Prepares draft layout that convey an effective visual design of typography, graphics and space to maximize visual impact. Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of equipment, tools and space utilized in performing duties. Web Management : Reviews, tests and implements all facets of the VAPHS internet and intranet sites. Utilized advanced HTML, cascading style sheets and java scripting to implement advanced web features such as embedded multimedia and videos, photo galleries, rotating banner images, web based forms and other automated content. Utilizes the TeamSite Enterprise Content Mgt. System and Drupal to manage and publish all web features and content. Verifies hyperlinks. Orients new web authors, content contributors, contractors and vendors to VA web policies. Ensures content complies with VA Directives. Implements and reviews analytical reports. Maintains service directory, online phone directory and event calendars. Participates in webmaster / web content groups. Administrative : Contributes to department initiatives and strives to improve effectiveness of the department. Provides feedback and offers suggestions. Answers and responds to inquiries. Participates in committees. Supports educational goals by providing graphic design and audiovisual support. Alternate Photographer : Provides backup support for photographer. Photographing and / or videotaping patients or medical subject matter for public and non public events. Selects and operates still and / or video cameras to achieve desired results. Responsible for setting up lighting equipment. Records the work of health care professionals.
