Job Summary
The Veteran Service Officer plays a crucial role in supporting veterans and their families by providing guidance and assistance in accessing benefits and services. Duties
- Assist veterans in navigating the complexities of benefit applications, including healthcare, housing, and education.
- Conduct assessments to identify the needs of veterans and develop personalized service plans.
- Provide counseling and support related to addiction, behavioral health, and crisis situations.
- Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to facilitate access to resources such as Section 8 housing and workforce development programs.
- Maintain accurate records of interactions with veterans and track progress towards goals.
- Educate veterans about their rights and available services through workshops and one-on-one sessions.
- Advocate for policy changes that benefit the veteran community at local, state, or national levels.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Strong knowledge of veteran benefits programs and services.
- Experience in addiction counseling, behavioral health support, or crisis management is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to effectively engage clients.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Commitment to serving the veteran population with empathy and respect.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $13.50 - $15.00 per hour
