Veteran Service Officer

Job Summary
The Veteran Service Officer plays a crucial role in supporting veterans and their families by providing guidance and assistance in accessing benefits and services. This position requires a compassionate individual with a strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by veterans. The ideal candidate will possess skills in social work, crisis management, and motivational interviewing to effectively advocate for and empower our veteran community.

Duties

• Assist veterans in navigating the complexities of benefit applications, including healthcare, housing, and education.
• Conduct assessments to identify the needs of veterans and develop personalized service plans.
• Provide counseling and support related to addiction, behavioral health, and crisis situations.
• Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to facilitate access to resources such as Section 8 housing and workforce development programs.
• Maintain accurate records of interactions with veterans and track progress towards goals.
• Educate veterans about their rights and available services through workshops and one-on-one sessions.
• Advocate for policy changes that benefit the veteran community at local, state, or national levels.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Strong knowledge of veteran benefits programs and services.
• Experience in addiction counseling, behavioral health support, or crisis management is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to effectively engage clients.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• Commitment to serving the veteran population with empathy and respect.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.50 - $15.00 per hour
