Overall Responsibilities: Report to VCIRC Board of Directors (BOD); responsible for overall compliance with
strategic direction, operational effectiveness of staff, programs, and execution of VCIRC mission.
Position Responsibilities
Operations Management
• Manage organization and implementation of VCIRC mission and business plan
• Ensure ongoing program excellence and vigorous program evaluation
• Coordinate timely responses to general email, phone or walk-in veteran inquiries
Board of Directors Relationship
• Communicate effectively with the BOD, providing timely and accurate information necessary for the BOD to function
properly and to make informed decisions
• Build and facilitate BOD active involvement with strategic direction, program evaluation and fundraising
Staff and Volunteer Leadership
• Hire, coach, evaluate and retain competent, qualified staff
• Actively recruit, engage and energize volunteers
Financial Viability and Operational Integrity
• Oversee fiscal management by anticipating finding requirements, operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum
resource utilization, and maintaining a positive financial position
• Work with the finance consultant to submit proposed annual budget and monthly financial reports for Treasurer review and
BOD approval
• Ensure the Veterans Council complies with bylaws, financial and operational policies and procedures, and government
501(c)3 requirements; conduct audits to ensure financial transparency
Marketing and Communications
• Serve as primary spokesperson to VCIRC constituents, the media and general public
• Effectively communicate VCIRC program statuses to the BOD, funders and other constituents
• Establish and maintain relationships with members, veteran organizations, collaborative partners, civic/government agencies
• Provide oversight for official communication (such as social media, website, thank you letters, press releases and media
engagements)
Qualifications
• Higher Education (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
• Honorably discharged US military veteran or family member highly desired
• Donor Stewardship & Grant Writing Experience
• Proven leadership, coaching and relationship management experience
• Past success working with a Board of Directors, cultivating existing board member relationships
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
• Exceptional ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize duties
• Ability to reconcile differences between others
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and learn administration of client and donor databases
