Job Title: Manager, Community Outreach and Activities
Salary: $70,000-$75,000
Job Summary:
Responsible for the VVSD National Stand Down Event, Volunteer Programs (including Stand Down Volunteers), Homeless Court Program, and VVSD Campus Activities. Acts as liaison with various Community-based partners, which benefit veterans including but not limited to Thomas Jefferson School of Law Veterans Clinic, USD Legal Clinic, Legal Aid Society, and Q.me Legal Clinic. Interface with various community organizations as it relates to VVSD residents and veterans. Establish and maintain contact with representatives of other organizations to exchange and update information on resources and services available to veterans. Incorporate and implement therapeutic and recreational programs which would benefit the resident population, and at times employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Stand Down Coordination
- Establish a solid understanding of Stand Down and all components to the 3-day event.
- Develop months in advance the location for the VVSD National Stand Down event.
- Manage and lead the Stand Down Committee
- Develop/update database of community partners, volunteers, and sponsors for the Stand Down event.
- Responsible for the planning, budgeting, and execution of the annual Stand Down event.
- Community Outreach to build and maintain ongoing communication and relationships with individuals, corporations, and local military units that want to be a part of VVSD National Stand Down and to introduce Stand Down and recruit new Community Partners, volunteers, and sponsors.
- Maintain and continuous relationship with supporters/donors of previous Stand Down events. Many of these supporters/donors have been involved for many years and the relationship needs to be supported through email updates via Constant Contact, and calls.
Homeless Court Program
- Liaison for all legal programs at VVSD.
- Screen clients for HCP eligibility.
- Provide guidance and support to clients throughout the HCP process.
- Liaison with Public Defender’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, and SD Superior Court - Liaison for legal programs at VVSD that are associated with Homeless Court.
- Maintain VVSD stakeholder status and program integrity by serving on the SD County HCP Steering Committee.
- Attend monthly Steering Committee and Provider Network meetings.
- Host the HCP every other month.
- Collaborate with other HCP municipalities nationwide to clear unresolved cases.
- Track monthly outcomes for statistical purposes and impact reports.
Campus Activity Coordination
- Develop an annual budget for campus activities and operate within the approved budget.
- Responsible for coordinating the celebration and/or acknowledgement of all military holidays and observances, major holidays, veteran focused holidays and certain “months” that are important to VVSD and our clients, such as, National Mental Health Month, Month of the Military Child, etc.
- Responsible for planning and coordinating the therapeutic activities currently conducted for our residents, such as Equestrian Assisted Therapies, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Pet Therapy, and Physical Therapy. Also responsible for adding any therapeutic activities thought to be supportive of the recovery of our residents.
- Marketing of planned campus / off-campus activities for residents/clients.
- Work closely with multiple departments to ensure activities meet the needs of our clients.
- Identify donation requirements and opportunities for campus events, if needed.
- Maintain inventory of campus equipment, and supplies used for activities including all holiday supplies.
- Make programs/activities available to employees as appropriate.
Volunteer Program (Stand Down and Year-Round Volunteer Programs)
- Determine volunteer needs based on pillars of volunteerism and match volunteers to their choice of volunteer passion.
- Recruit and maintain a group of volunteers to assist with the VVSD pillars of Volunteerism and Stand Down event.
- Create database of categorized volunteer categories and individuals’ information
- Create a monthly email campaign and a monthly/quarterly newsletter to build brand awareness for volunteering at VVSD and maintain the volunteer database.
- Network within the community to support a strong and growing volunteer database and explain the importance of volunteering at VVSD.
- Communicate marketing needs to the Marketing department to support volunteer outreach efforts.
- Provide social media material for monthly content calendar to be added to VVSD’s social media platforms.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field required, master’s degree in human services or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising a homeless veteran program preferred.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, EXCEL, and database management.
- Ability to communicate on all levels.
- Must be able to, both mentally and physically, perform all aspects of job description and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Veteran Status a plus!
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in a noisy, busy environment
- Ability to bend and lift light objects.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitor.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
- Ability to speak English.
