VVSD Is seeking a safety conscious Driver, to serve our veterans. The Driver is responsible for assisting our clients with their transportation needs. He/she is also responsible for picking up and/or delivering items, packages, purchases, etc., as needed by the Agency. He/she assists the Facilities Department in maintaining the VVSD vehicles.
Compensation:
The base pay for this position is $17.00 to $19.00 per hour.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transporting clients to and from meetings, seminars, and appointments.
- Will ensure that clients are picked up and transported in a timely manner
- Will ensure clients safely arrive at their destination
- Obeys all traffic laws and drives defensively
- Maintain clean vehicle, free of clutter and trash
- Assist maintenance in checking fluids, i.e.: gas and oil
- Wash vehicle as recommended by maintenance staff
- Report any unusual wear and tear of the vehicle
- Report any incidents of damage to the vehicle
- Responsible for safety of all passengers, that passengers wear safety restraints
- Attend various trainings as assigned
- Use camera and/or written documentation for all incidents
- Ensure that vehicle is properly used only for business purposes
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Experience with homeless population
- Ability to lift/push minimum of 60 pounds
- Ability to communicate with our clients
- Able to work with diverse population
- Ability to fluently read, write and communicate in English
- Class B Drivers license, valid license and vehicle insurance; must have clean DMV Record
- Some knowledge of Veterans Issues a plus
- Must be able to comfortably, both mentally and physically, perform all aspects of job description and other duties as assigned by supervisor
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to bend and lift light objects
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle
- Ability to drive in traffic without getting agitated
- Capable of hearing and speaking to exchange information
- Able to work in a noisy, busy environment
