Community Engagement Specialist
Location: Tri-Cities, Washington (25% travel required)
Reports to: Executive Director, Veterans Village
Position Summary:
As a key ambassador for Veterans Village, the Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for building meaningful relationships between the organization and the communities it serves. Working directly with the Executive Director, this role plays a vital part in aligning affordable housing efforts with the real needs of veterans and their families across the western regions of Washington State. The ideal candidate will have a passion for community-driven solutions, a deep respect for veterans, and a strong background in stakeholder engagement, event planning, and strategic outreach. This is a boots-on-the-ground role requiring empathy, creativity, organization, and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Relationship Building & Advocacy
- Establish and nurture relationships with city officials, veteran service organizations, community leaders, and local partners.
- Represent Veterans Village at community events, public forums, and stakeholder meetings.
- Serve as an advocate for veterans, communicating local needs and community insights to internal leadership.
Strategic Outreach & Engagement
- Design and implement outreach initiatives that increase visibility and strengthen partnerships.
- Collaborate with local nonprofits and service providers to coordinate joint efforts and maximize impact.
- Lead public education efforts about available services, housing initiatives, and veteran-specific resources.
Event Planning & Public Feedback
- Organize and host open houses, town halls, and community feedback sessions.
- Collect and analyze data from community interactions to inform program development.
- Document and report on outreach activities, including surveys, meeting summaries, and event photography.
Field Travel & Program Support
- Travel regularly throughout the western region of Washington State to support outreach, engage satellite sites, and attend community events.
- Provide on-the-ground support for new housing developments and community initiatives.
Volunteer & Project Management
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to assist with engagement efforts.
- Manage outreach projects from concept through execution, ensuring goals and timelines are met.
- Use social media and digital platforms to increase community engagement and promote initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in community outreach, public engagement, or nonprofit program coordination.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to connect with diverse populations.
- Familiarity with veteran services and affordable housing is strongly preferred.
- Experience with volunteer coordination and project management.
- Ability to travel regularly and manage responsibilities independently while working as part of a collaborative team.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
