Project Overview
Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job Summary
This position is for a Control Systems Engineer who will prepare designs for systems associated with the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP), High Level Waste project. The successful candidate must have strong organizational skills, proven problem-solving abilities and a can-do attitude. This position is located in Richland, Washington.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities
Properly interpret and apply codes & standards and customer design requirements in the preparation of Control Systems design products.
Design and review of Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) to add control/functionality for intermediate process control systems.
Specification of instrumentation and control valves.
Prepare instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions.
Prepare digital and analog control logic.
Populate instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.
Design and application of tubing and instrument installations.
Coordination of physical locations of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.
Coordination of technical issues with other engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical) and other functions (e.g., Construction, Start-up).
Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge And Skills
Must have 3 years of experience developing, checking, and reviewing Control Systems Engineering documentation for detail design.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.).
