Job Title : Sign Language Interpreter - Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)

Job Description :

We are seeking a qualified and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide

services for a kindergarten student at Laurel Bay Schools under the Department of Defense Education

Activity (DoDEA). The interpreter will work daily during school hours in alignment with the student's

Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. This is an excellent opportunity to support the education

of military dependents by providing essential language access services in an elementary school

environment.

Certificates / Security Clearances / Other

Additional Information :

The period of performance includes a base year (November 2024 - July 2025) and two option

years, based on contract performance and DoDEA requirements.

The interpreter will work 7 hours per day on site at the school when school is in session.

Occasional additional tasks such as meetings or trainings may be required.

Privacy Act compliance and background checks are mandatory before the commencement of

work.

Additional Qualifications / Responsibilities

Responsibilities :

Provide daily ASL interpretation services for one kindergarten student based on their IEP goals

from 0800-1530 when school is in session.

Perform simultaneous and consecutive interpretation from English to ASL while teaching the

child new signs as needed.

Collaborate with teachers, staff, and the student's parents as necessary, ensuring confidentiality

and adherence to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Interpreter Code of Professional

Conduct.

Maintain the quality and accuracy of interpretation services in a school environment.

Attend virtual meetings and complete required training programs (including privacy training).

Adhere to the provided standards of conduct and privacy policies in accordance with DoDEA

requirements.

Qualifications :

American Sign Language (ASL) certification.

Fluent in both English and ASL, with proficiency in signing, finger spelling, and relevant body

language.

At least one year of experience interpreting for elementary-age children in a school setting.

A minimum of one year of experience translating and interpreting between English and ASL.

Basic computer skills for documenting services and attending virtual meetings.

US citizenship required due to the nature of working within a DoDEA school.

Preferred Skills :

Strong understanding of the unique needs of students with disabilities and working within IEP

frameworks.

Experience working with military dependents or in a DoDEA school setting.

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and business casual attire in a school setting.
