The Safety Engineer will report to the EH&S Manager and is responsible for evaluating, designing, implementing, and maintaining workplace safety, and health programs that are consistent with applicable requirements (regulations, ISO 14001, corporate Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) standards, internal management system standards, and industry best management practices).
Key Responsibilities
Analyzes, develops, and implements action plans, processes, audits, JHA revalidations, and procedures to control safety risks and for achieving compliance to regulatory standards, Corning safety policies, ISO 14001, and improvement initiatives.
Sets up processes to conduct suitable and sufficient assessments that proactively identify hazards and reduce risk including but not limited to hazard identification & risk assessments, pre-startup safety review, job safety analysis, PPE, machine guarding, and hazardous energy.
Analyze work tasks and environments, including third party industrial environmental evaluations, using industry and Corning accepted ergonomic assessment methods/tools and drive improvements that reduce risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
Performs trending analysis to improve EH&S performance by gathering data, developing reports, identifying gaps, evaluating risk, and implementing improvements.
Ensure the Emergency Response Plan remains current with regulatory requirements and site needs. Responds to emergency events within the plant to mitigate/control the effects and begin to restore the situation to normal operations.
Ensure programs for contractors and construction projects are implemented consistent with Corning standards, regulatory requirements, and best management practices.
Work Hours
Standard Hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm)
Managing a 24/7 plant structure, so occasional support when needed.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree with ASP Certification or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health
3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Executed behavioral based safety programs that proactively engage employees in identifying hazards and preventing mistakes/errors.
Intermediate level of knowledge using standard Microsoft desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook). Experience with SharePoint a plus.
Desired Skills
CIH or CSP Certification
Extensive training and/or experience with a broad array of safety programs including but not limited to fall protection, crane & hoists, confined space, powered industrial vehicles, ergonomics, & electrical safety programs.
Implemented/maintained EHS programs aligned to ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OSHA Star Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), or other recognized EHS standards
This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
The range for this position is $73,310.00 - $100,801.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
