Weyerhaeuser is seeking a Safety Manager for the Eugene Engineered Wood Products manufacturing facility located in Eugene, OR. The Safety Manager is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Mill Manager. The role is a key member of the Mill Leadership Team and will provide safety-related guidance for the mill of 190 employees while driving safety goals.
Key Functions
The Safety Manager will provide leadership, coordination and technical expertise in all areas of safety, health and industrial hygiene to achieve operational excellence. The role will have accountability for establishing reliable methods for improving safety performance and for nourishing a culture in which safety is an overriding value in all activities and where every associate assumes accountability for safety initiatives and expectations. The role also ensures the mill is in compliance with OSHA regulatory expectations in addition to business and Company guidelines and initiatives.
Responsibilities
Provide full time health and safety support to the site and ensure that all practices are in compliance with corporate and regulatory agency requirements
Build a positive working relationship with all site personnel as well as all regulatory agencies
Set safety objectives and targets to ensure goals are achieved
Provide leadership, coordination and technical expertise in the areas of health and safety and support the site in training and development requirements
Conduct incident investigations on all work-related safety incidents to determine root cause, prevent recurrences and establish employee accountability
Ensure on-time completion of any and all corrective actions from site reported incidents, internal and external safety audit findings, and/or critical action items from other site investigation findings shared with the business
Oversight of all Workman’s Compensation claims in partnership with Human Resource
Mentor the Safety Champions (Committee) and their functions into a workable and functioning part of the safety culture to add value. Encourage employee involvement in safety and promote a caring safety culture.
Coordination of and lead for internal and external audits to support the Corporate Safety Audit program and participation in external audits at other Weyerhaeuser facilities
Leadership to accurate and timely implementation of facility safety plans, procedures and reporting
Continuous improvement of incident prevention programs and techniques
Ensuring the safe and efficient execution of work
Role modeling safe work practices and facilitating team meetings & trainings with assigned team
Provide safety related project management support using processes like MOC, Capital project gate processes and OSHA standards
Ensuring proper job and safety rules are understood and followed
Identifying safety, environmental, quality & production issues and incident investigation and follow-up when safety or environmental incidents occur
Meeting production standards and goals
Developing and training associates including coaching, mentoring and performance management
Supporting training and development plans to improve skills, knowledge and team performance
Supporting the improvement of key performance indicators and continuous improvement of operational functions and for department budget cost effectiveness
Leading the team by proactively resolving employee issues, encouraging teamwork, and ensuring adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner
Staffing, recruiting and retaining talent
Role model of all standards/processes and on-the-job behavior by living our core principles

Bachelor's Degree with 3 years safety experience OR High School Diploma/GED with 5 years’ experience health and safety in a manufacturing or industrial setting
Demonstrated passion for safety with proven experience in engaging hourly associates in safety
Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations/requirements, workman’s compensation and industrial hygiene regulations
Understanding of safety processes with ability to complete an internal audit/review
Experience leading and/or participating in safety incident investigations
Knowledge of Chemical and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) management systems
Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training
Project management skills, to include strong leadership, with the ability to develop and implement safety processes
Strong, engaging people-centered leadership style
Ability to build positive working relationships at all levels
Proactive and assertive nature with a sense of urgency
Ability to plan, prioritize and work under pressure to meet deadlines
Demonstrated computer skills with proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of health and safety software programs

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Health or Occupational Health & Safety

5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, with preference for wood products manufacturing
Leadership/Management experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Strong mechanical knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $88,900 to $133,500 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
