The Tax Specialist Latam is expected to be a proactive, self-motivated, and collaborative professional who will support tax operations on a very detail level, preparing accurate tax calculations and timely tax filings, looking for best practices, different ways to do the things, incorporating technology, and innovation pursuing enhancements to the existing tax functions supporting continuous and sustainable growth. This role will be focused on preparing and filing tax returns, meeting internal or jurisdictional tax deadlines, and improving compliance routines. The role will be reporting to the Senior Manager Tax Latam and will be based in Tampa, Florida. This position does not have direct reports.
Position Responsibilities
Responsible for preparing tax compliance routines, monthly installments and annual returns related to indirect and direct taxes for Puerto Rico subsidiary.
Responsible for all tax requirements including, but not limited to :
Renew identification numbers and licenses for tax decrees, Free Trade Zone and bonds, to ensure operational continuity. Renew sales tax exemption certificate and merchant's registry certificate for all BMS affiliates doing business in PR.
Obtain Puerto Rico Treasury Department's certificate of debt and filing periodically as required by business needs and manage the clearing process of any alleged outstanding tax liability.
Responsible for the preparation and submission of Tax computation for Budget, Projections and actuals for manufacturing legal entities in PR.
Propose initiatives to enhance tax compliance processes aiming efficiency on the day-to-day work.
Responsible for ensuring accuracy on the tax accounts balances for month closing and reconciliations cycles.
Promptly attend any tax inquire from the local Tax Authorities.
Prepare US GAAP tax reporting, current and deferred tax provision, and FIN48 contingency.
Work closely with third-party external professionals (global and local providers) and promote close collaborations with the local finance team and shared services centers within the organization.
Stay up to date with tax practices and regulations in Puerto Rico to support the implementation of changes, preventing exposure and avoiding tax contingencies.
Ensure SOX compliance in relation to reporting controls by supporting testing and documentation processes.
Additional Qualifications / Responsibilities
Main Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Tax, Finance, or a related field 3 years of combined tax experience in public accounting or a large multinational company.
Proficient in English & good Spanish communication skills.
Knowledge in SAP.
Advanced skills in Microsoft office, advanced excel.
Good understanding of accounting and tax principles.
Team player with good collaborative skills who is confident in communicating with others and can work with minimal supervision.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail with an ability to deliver accurate documentation and task completion.
Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, highly organized and results oriented.
