What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant - Sunvalley Pet Hospital position at VetnCare?
Who We Are
VetnCare is a clinically led community of AAHA-accredited hospitals within the San Francisco Bay Area. We believe the best quality veterinary care comes from locally managed hospitals, and are committed to putting leadership back into the hands of veterinarians. With our comprehensive approach to general practice, which we call "Advanced General Practice," we bridge the gap between general practice and advanced care by providing consistent training and mentorship. We provide our patients and clients with access to all aspects of clinical care, including, wellness and preventative care, urgent care and internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, ultrasound and Xray, as well as numerous advanced practices including ophthalmology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery and exotics.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play a hands-on role in patient care, from conducting physical exams and assessments to presenting treatment plans and administering treatments. You'll assist in surgical preparation, monitor anesthesia and recovery, and perform dental cleanings and X-rays. Your responsibilities will also include full-body and extremity radiology, venipuncture, laboratory processing, catheter placement, and inpatient care. Additionally, you'll help train and develop junior and new veterinary assistants, fostering a collaborative and skilled team environment.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a dedicated and experienced Veterinary Assistant with at least 2 years of hands-on experience in a clinical setting. The ideal candidate is comfortable handling animals, has a solid understanding of veterinary care (critical care experience is a plus), and possesses strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members. You should be adaptable and open to cross-training for front office receptionist duties, with proficiency in phone and computer skills. As a true team player, we value someone eager to learn new techniques, embrace change, and contribute to a supportive work environment. The role requires occasional lifting of 50 pounds, so physical stamina is important.
