Job Summary:
VetPride Services is seeking individuals with basic experience with equipment operation and repair to support the Southwest Region Fleet Transportation (SWRFT) in (Marine Corps Logistics Base) Barstow, CA. The Non-Tactical Equipment (NTE) mechanic helper will provide equipment checks, services, cleaning, refueling, and minor repairs on non-tactical mobile equipment. NTE to be serviced include, but is not limited to, forklifts, warehouse tractors, low speed electric carts, warehouse sweepers, trailers, and similar support equipment.
Hourly Rate: $16.36 | Health & Welfare Fringe Benefit: $4.41 (paid out to you)
**Your Health and Welfare Fringe Benefit will be paid to you in cash (not to exceed 40 hours per week). Your total hourly wage will be $20.77.
Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm
Location: MCLB Barstow, CA 92311
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform equipment cleaning services such as exterior washing, interior vacuuming/cleaning, interior dusting, window cleaning and tire dressing.
- Perform service tasks such as checking/filling equipment fluid levels to include, but not limited to, fuel, engine oil, coolant, crankcase oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake system reservoirs.
- Replace worn parts and make necessary adjustments.
- Perform equipment pickup and delivery.
- Perform operator scheduled services; low battery boost starts, and record odometer/hour meter readings.
- Perform minor repair tasks as identified in the manufacturer’s operator manual such as replacing windshield wiper blades, replacing interior light bulbs, and removing decals.
- Assist SWRFT personnel with spill prevention measures, spill clean-up and servicing spill barriers.
- Enter and retrieve information from an automated key tracking system, used to monitor equipment usage and capture usage data.
- Gather vehicle information for record keeping and monitoring purposes.
- Maintain a clean workspace and clean equipment after use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to operate equipment safely, exercise safe work practices, and maintain a safe work environment.
- Ability to properly handle and store HazMat and properly dispose of HazWaste.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Will be subject to a pre-employment criminal background and DMV check.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Regularly work outdoors in inclement weather including rain, snow, heat and cold.
- Must possess strong customer service skills and the ability to respond calmly and professionally when handling conflict.
- Consistent attendance and reliability required.
- Ability to understand, speak, and write basic English.
- Regularly stand for long periods (6-8 hours) and walk quickly.
- Ability to lift to 45 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Must have the ability to work independently and within established guidelines, follow directions, and work well with others.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Technical capabilities and basic computer knowledge.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid/Current Driver’s License.
- Sufficient basic equipment operation and repair experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 45 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to perform a moderate and repeated amount of pushing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and climbing.
