About the job Police Officer
JOB SUMMARY :
Serves as a Patrol Officer to protect life and property, prevent crime, preserve the peace, apprehend criminal subjects, maintain order, be aware of impending community problems; performs departmental maintenance as needed or directed; and other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO : Patrol Sergeant.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Responds to all law enforcement related calls.
Ensures that all assigned equipment is in an operable condition.
Patrols assigned area.
Assists the public in any way which is police related.
Assists other officers as required.
Issues summons for traffic or City Ordinance violations.
Investigates suspicious activity.
Investigates traffic accidents.
Arrests, processes, and transports criminal suspects to appropriate detention facilities.
May be required to assist in other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
Knowledge of City, State and Federal laws.
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of law enforcement equipment.
Ability to acquire knowledge of principals, technical information and practices in the law enforcement field.
Ability to understand oral and written instructions and directions.
Ability to establish and maintain good cooperative relationship with fellow employees and the general public.
Ability to practice sound safety and work habits.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Satisfactory results of background and employment screening checks including physical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.
Must be bondable.
Must complete the City Field Training Program.
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES :
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer license.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
All required certifications and licenses must be current and valid.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Through regular exercise and moderate living, shall maintain a physical condition as to be able to handle strenuous physical contacts or demands required of the active, uniformed law enforcement officer.
